Just came back to retail from classic. I really wanted to experience it again and I was excited to play with some fellow old farts like me. I thought the playerbase would be older andf more mature. Holy cow was I wrong!
The players (on Grobbulus) were 10x more immature than anything I encountered on retail. It seemed as if they were all just itching for an argument. I couldn’t mention anything without 10 people jumping on my case about how I was QQing. The theme seemed to be if you weren’t on your knees worshipping every aspect of classic you needed to log off.
The real nail in the coffin for me was the bullying/mentality/censorship. There was a political convo going on that I foolishly decided to take part in. 99% of the people were of one side of the political fence (I won’t say which). As soon as I identified as the other 1%, i LITERALLY was booted out of the game. When I logged in it said that so many people reported me that my chat was temporarily taken away. This is why I quit FB, as it has taken to censorship of political ideas that differ from theirs.
I really worry about when I’m old and in the retirement home. The current youth seem very hateful and intolerant to anyone that disagrees with them.
Rabid fanboyism and trolling is about all I run across in Classic, at least in the general chats.
That being said, general is usually a mess in both versions of the game. Just keep to yourself and only talk to folks when you’re needing to group up, then talk within the group afterwards.
That’s what I usually do and I’ve made several friends and don’t have any issues like what you’ve stated you experienced.
Also, yes, a lot of folks have problems with staying civil whilst disagreeing with someone.
It is impossible to tell if these kinds of posts are even genuine anymore. I mean really? The chat you can turn off hurt your feelings? And you let it? Welcome to the internet?
Look OP i don’t know how old you are but I’m going to assume a few things here
First is most people in classic WoW will be in their 20s, I’m playing and I’m in my late 20s
Second of all is if you thought everyone was going to be more mature and somehow managed to get into an /1 brawl you ended up being one of the immature ones
and lastly if 99% of the playing population weren’t on your side and you had to quit facebook I’m going to assume its a you problem
Yeah public chats are always a mess, one thing I do kinda appreciate in classic though is that trade gets so crowded with LFG and actual trade spam that it drowns out most of the political spam. Not because people are nicer, just because there’s more of a use for chat.
No joke, retail chat has been so helpful and kind since classic came out lol. I tried out classic, but it is too boring and we already did all that crap. Asmongold is streaming dungeons where everyone is only using one button lol. The main boss mechanic for ony is tanks cant taunt so the boss just destroys ranged dps, but you only need 3 people to win anyways. Its a garbage game.
I decided to level a new priest on retail after and omg is it fun!
Yep, I don’t get it either, the end game rotations are simple, 1 to maybe 3 abilities (or 3 levels of 1 ability for mages), the raid boss mechanics are simple (or none). Yet they say retail is watered down and too easy.
I think they’re getting ‘tedious’ mixed up with ‘difficult’.
To be fair, Barrens chat can get pretty messy, as can the custom world chat we have. I haven’t seen anyone get mass-reported for a political stance any which way but I have some rather involved discussions there.
How can people seriously be so shocked by anonymous behavior? I mean my god, when I see stuff like this, it’s like seeing a bunch of apes messing around… I just think to myself, “lul that’s the internet”.
