Classic no longer most viewed on Twitch. Will classic die soon?

It seems like the hype train is already dying , and it’s only been 1-2 weeks

Classic dominated twitch when it first came out, reaching 1.2 million viewers.

However, now it’s dwindled down to a consistent ~200,000.

Classic had MASSIVE que times on all realms initially.

However, now there are very short (if any) ques on most realms. Except for a select few.

I think in about 2-3 weeks, the vast majority of people (90%) will go back to retail or whatever games they were playing before classic came out.

Server merges will be required in about 1 month.

What do you all think? Will classic be able to survive? How many people do you think will stay on classic?

Every game has it’s time on Twitch, just because it dies on twitch doesn’t mean it’s going to die…

As far as the core gameplay loop goes, It’s boring to play, who the hell would watch it? There was probably only a spike from everyone that isn’t playing wanting to see what all the fuss was about.

Maybe the servers being down had something to do with that, people are just looking for any excuse to say classic wow is dying lol

Well Vanilla seemed to do ok before the whole twitch fotm bandwagoning.

This is a good point, I think the recent DDOS attacks have had a huge impact on twitch viewership. Not many people want to watch someone stuck on the log in screen.

However, we can both agree that the viewer numbers have decreased DRASTICALLY.

In my opinion, this is already the beginning of the end for classic. I suspect most servers will be permanent low population in a few weeks.

This is what we’ve been saying all along.

Classic popularity is not in the MILLIONS like people thought.

Queues will be present in the beginning but NOT be forever.

Classic didn’t need 50 servers at launch, because long term they will empty out.

Server merges WON’T be needed, because there aren’t that many servers anyway.

Twitch popularity (and streamer popularity in general, as Twitch is not the only game in town) will diminish as people grow tired of it. The gaming and viewing community is a fickle beast.

None of this is a surprise.

On Twitch, maybe.

Isn’t the point of Twitch-streaming to be up on the most ‘hot new thing’, whether it’s a game or a controversy?

Only reason those games are ahead is because players are tuning into the E-Sports for Counter Strike and League.

Even though the servers have been down, Classic is still retaining 250k+ viewers.

fomo streamers have moved onto the next game they will only play for 2-3 days and with them their viewers. theres a lot of big/bigger name streamers that do this. not only do they get new subs [a lot of people will just see the top 6 with the highest view count and think must be a good streamer and just join theirs] they pull attention away from those that actually plan to stick with the game. almost all games have this happen on release. path of exile just released a new 3 month temp league and viewers dropped to half by the end of the third day.

people aren’t watching as much because they to busy playing.

I agree with everything except your stance on server merges.

At peak times, there are already servers that are “low” population.

Give it a few more weeks, and more and more will be that way.

Without CRZ (there would be riots if it were added to vanilla) , server merges will be the only option.

Seriously - I really want to ask. Do you WANT TO RUIN THE GAME? There is absolutely no possible rational for posting this on the forums that you can make that I will believe.

seeing how it only takes 2500-3k people on a server to survive…yes.

90% will go back to retail? No man, a lot of people playing haven’t played it in 10 years. I personally know 6 people who came back after not playing since BC just for classic. If they quit (which they aren’t, they’re having a ball), they just won’t play WoW at all.

BfA is not a popular game. Some people may stop playing classic but your 90% figure is way, way off. I would never go back to BfA. The next expansion would have to drastically revert for me to even consider playing retail, especially after the whole “rose tinted glasses” argument has been completely shattered for me by the fact that I do in fact prefer classic by a country mile.

I mean, of course it’s dying down in twitch viewership. No game reigns forever at the top (not even fortnite). WoW classic was never going to maintain millions and millions of subs, but I have no doubt it will retain tens of thousands, if not a few hundred thousand, at least for some time.

I still log on and constantly see a few dozen people in whatever levelling zone I’m in (duskwood atm), and i’m not even on a super popular streamer server. The game’s healthy and I’m sure it will be until the end of the content cycle.

Came back for classic. If I go back for retail I’ll probably just derp around levelling characters until the next expansion.
