Classic Mining Stalled Out

I’m trying to cap my Classic mining in retail. I hit 295 and everything is grey. Rich Thorium veins, even Large Obsidian Chunks. I don’t have any smelting to do. Where do I go for those last 5 points?

Do you have the recipes for Smelt Enchanted Thorium, Dark Iron, and Enchanted Elementium?

I have enchanted Thorium, but not the others.

In theory those three should be able to get you to 300.

Dark Iron is learned by a turn-in quest in BRD dungeon. Don’t start the seven emperors encounter before turning it in!

Enchanted Elementium requires a Shadow Priest to mind control a specific mob in Blackwing Lair which will then teach another character the recipe. Have to be careful because it is very easy these days to accidently kill the mob, or let the mobs around it kill it if you MC too quickly.

If they cannot, max out any other mining skills you have and then three months of the Darkmoon Faire will get you those final points.

Thanks! What’s the name of the dark iron quest, or do you know what I need to complete it?

Can’t remember the quest name. It is offered and turned in at the same dude in the dungeon.

You need:
2 Star Ruby
10 Truesilver Bars
20 Gold Bars

Make sure you have Low Level Quests enabled on your mini map. Walk up to the dude with a quest icon. Accept it. Turn it in. Move to the Black Forge (do the encounter then cross the walkway towards Molten Core and its off to the side) and smelt however many Dark Iron Bars you have the mats for (8xOre for each Bar).

Dark Iron mining and smelting is pretty much the only way to get the last 5 vanilla skill points. (Unless you have already maxed out skill in every other expansion, in which case the Darkmoon Faire profession quest will close that gap, but that’s a lot of work to complete every other expansion’s skill development.)

Start mining. Try Winterspring and the Blasted Lands and just run around until the last 5 points level.
