Classic Mail System

So for the first time, I have tried to send mail from one toon to another. Is there a 20minute delay or something? I logged in with my toon that the mail was sent to and it’s not here yet.

Think it used to be an hour in vanilla.

I thought it was instant. I thought the 1 hour delay was put in during TBC, to discourage gold sellers. But, mailing to yourself was still instant.

An hour delay between mailings IIRC. It encouraged you to meet up with someone.

Nope. 1 hour delay on any mail with items in it, regardless of destination. Sending gold or just text is instant to anyone.

Well I know there were mail changes during TBC but honestly I can’t remember exactly how mail worked before that.

TBC patch notes 2.1.3 have

  • Any mail between characters on the same account is now instant regardless of money or items attached.
  • Any mail sent from a character on a different account will now have a one hour delay regardless of money or items attached.

The first ‘is now instant’ implies that it took time before this patch.

Thanks everyone

And the 2nd “is not instant” implies that money wasn’t.

Don’t see the implication, but as said before, I don’t remember how it worked in vanilla.

It’s literally the reverse of the thing you see.

  • In Vanilla, items took 1 hour, everything else (including gold) was instant.
  • In TBC, intra-account mail (regardless of items) was instant, and inter-account mail (regardless of items) took one hour.

They increased the inter-account gold time to slow down gold buyers by giving them a chance to flag and review high transfers.

I don’t doubt that is how it worked. My comment was that not all of what you describe is implied by the patch note. But it’s off topic, so I’ll move along.

The wording of the patch note like a lot of the newer messages from bliz is a bit “awkward” and misses the mark quite often. ESL could explain it I suppose but it is one hour to get the mail on my alt as well. Considering I had to walk all the way across the street to get to a mailbox I guess its ok, I like the classic idea but they should have given some leeway on mailboxes…MORE MAILBOXES!
