Hello, I confess that I didn’t like the new layout, I believe that a game has to update and make changes to please new players but why didn’t they leave the option to have the Classic Layout in the game?
Would it be that difficult to give this option to players who like the old Layout?
Does anyone know any addon that leaves the Layout as in version 9.0 of the game?
This complaint is so last week, we’ve moved on to fel drakes now.

There is a Classic layout and Wowhead also has a version of one, as well.
There’s just no original art style with it.
The classic layout is 2 centered bars with art. How hard could that be to make on your own?

Try Bartender4. It doesn’t fix everything, but makes a good go at it. Even has a dropdown to choose ‘classic’.

This has nothing to do with new players. People who use lots of addons have been asking for certain changes for years. They got some of those changes.

I want this as well, you can do it without the art but who wants that? I need the art with it, like the actual classic layout. All Blizzard needs to do is increase the amount of icon slots on action bar 1 to 18, then I can have 2 rows of 18 again, and the joke of a “classic” option can actually be correct.

With the demand for it I wouldn’t be surprised if they end up adding a “classic mode” toggle. All the code for the old UI is still checked into their version control systems I’m sure, so putting it back in behind a checkbox shouldn’t be that difficult. If Blizzard doesn’t do that, an addon author might do it instead because the stock UI is just XML and Lua just like any other addon (though there may be bits that a third party mod can’t replicate, since there are a few protected functions), so theoretically all one needs to do is take the old UI code, make some adjustments, and ship it as an addon.
If I had to guess Blizzard’s hesitance to do this probably has to do with one of two things:
- They’ve got features planned that they don’t want to implement in two versions of the UI
- They’re prepping for console release and don’t want to make the old UI work on consoles too
Though for #1, they can just put a disclaimer that the old UI might be missing new features and for #2 they could just not offer the old UI on console versions of the game.

Unfortunately, the classic layout script provided by wowhead is giving an error when imported… the bars, menus, chat, mini map all go to the top left of the screen…
I went to try to create my own layout and after more than 1 hour to leave everything as I wanted the other day when I logged into the game everything went to the top of the screen too… that is, I wasted my time…

Are you using addons? What you are describing is not normal and it’s strange that it would happen with both an imported UI and a saved UI.
If your settings won’t save or keep reverting, delete Cache and WTF folders. Fixed it for me.
I’m happy with the new layout, but would not mind being able to split, stack and shrink the third bar, so it looks like the classic bars. Personally i just made third bar verticle and shrinked it a bit and moved it. The third (classic stacked bar portion) was always mouse clicks for me, so a verticle version works fine for me.
