It’s no accident that Classic WoW is now under a month away. With the huge detachment of the Devs in Retail to the community and inability to provide a good expansion in several years. If it isn’t working, you need to take a step back and come up with a new game plan.
The new game plan is almost here!!! 8 - 27 - 19 the gaming industry will be forever changed as Classic WoW launches and gives millions of gamers that quit Retail long ago a reason to play again. It also will give millions of gamers that never got to experience the MMO that started it all a chance to play the greatest MMO of all time.

This is an historic moment not just for Blizzard but for the gaming industry!! The Devs just don’t get what gamers want! We want a game like Classic! We want a game where choices matter and you can play it “HOW YOU WANT”. We want gear to matter, we want professions to matter, we want decisions to be important and enjoy the far superior talent tree system again. We want Class roles again!! We want the original MMO in all it’s glory!!
It’s obvious the Devs lost consciousness with these things by adding convenience to effectively remove, community, gearing, class design and roles out of the once great game we loved. Sorry Dps don’t need heals because it’s hard for them to level alone!!! Make friends with a dam healer or level up First Aid it’s simple!! Sorry we don’t want LFR, heaven forbid you make friends. Sorry we don’t want Templates, Scaling or any of that garbage!! The core aspect of an RPG is for gear to matter and be impactful. Don’t remove the most important part of the game cause someone can’t get Gear!!!
It is easy to see how far a once great game has fallen but times are changing!!! The future is almost here!!! That future is Classic WoW!!! It will be curious how other gaming companies respond to the success of Classic. When they realize what actually good class design looks like. When they realize people are playing Classic morning, noon and night and can’t get enough of it!!! Finally the watered down MMORPG industry will get the jolt it’s needed for over 10 years!!!
Classic is the Future of WoW but also the Future of MMORPGs!! Now every company will respond and want to compete and make better games again!! Games you can actually immerse yourself in!! Games like Classic!!
A lot of the crap that you blame for destroying the game came from the mouths of members of this community. Just saying.
Also, if you think Classic WoW will shape how MMOs are developed going forward, you’re smoking the good stuff and I want some. MMOs are back in the niche from whence they spawned where they belong and they’re staying there.
In before someone says but “X” expansion was good. The last average expansion was WoD. It wasn’t good though. It did bring a lot of people back that quit during MoP though which was an obvious cash grab to the asian market. That is why Subs spiked in WoD to 10+ million again. However they left quickly as WoD wasn’t good! The last good expansion was WotLK. The last amazing expansion was TBC. “not my thoughts just the general consensus using, poles and statistics”
Hopefully they can release something in the future that’s good too. I feel like we’re gonna get the Disney treatment where they just keep rewashing the good stuff from the past because they lack creativity/direction for the future.
Classic is a superior MMO in everyway compared to any modern day MMO. It will have 10+ million subs easy!
With that said you know what is the #1 trending game right now recently on Youtube? If you guessed Minecraft you would be correct!! Gamers don’t need fancy new graphics, impressive new quality of life features, or any of that stuff for a game to actually be great!!
We just need a great game!! MMO’s aren’t even close to being great these days and you will see how the demand for older style games like Classic dominate the industry just like how Minecraft has made a comeback!
To take this point further, Blizzard realizes this with their epic mistakes in Diablo. Where all we wanted for years was the next epic adventure in Diablo and when Diablo III launched!! We bought it, played it and said this isn’t Diablo!!! Sure new graphics and yada, yada, yada but along came a company called GGG. They made a game called Path of Exile that was the game Diablo fans wanted!! It was a closer expansion to Diablo than what Blizzard actually put out!!
We can see how well Diablo III is doing compared to PoE that crushes the ARPG market. Blizzard learned some hard lessons here. That their new ideas on how a game should be are all bad! That fans want what was great and continues to be great! The old games!!!
I agree, this is the ultimate litmus test for the gaming community. Does a game like Classic have what it takes to be successful in 2019? Maybe. I can’t wait to find out, I’m excited.
But stop making claims that cannot be backed up. At the end of the day. We do not know if it will make any difference. Because the game has not released yet. If it will be successful. If it will be welcomed and loved by millions once more. Only time will tell.

If WoD which was an average expansion at best fetched 10+ million subs at launch because MMO fans were starved for something to play and Classic is better in every way. How will it not duplicate those numbers or crush them?
You are agreeing on points that contradict the other. Which is why Classic will easily get 10+ million subs. It’s just simple logic if you agree on the first point.
I’m glad you want gear to matter again. I just hope you remember this enthusiasm a year or 2 from now as everyone else starts to get geared up as well. Will your own gear feel special if it is also possessed by others? Or is it merely a positional good in your eyes?

They absolutely are meaningless on their own. How popular something is isn’t an indicator of how good a thing is. Tons of terrible things have been exceedingly popular.
