Classic Is Not Perfect

Ok, first off, I want to mention that I played the stress test for many many hours while it was active both times. I had a blast playing it, and it’s the most fun I’ve had playing WoW over the past few months.

However, the more you play it, the more you see all of its flaws. It’s not necessarily a bad thing, since it’s part of the whole #nochanges thing, but there are just so many little things here and there that certainly add up.

There are a number of posters here trying to claim Classic/Vanilla WoW as the best of everything, trying to make it seem like it’s some kind of perfect game, where everything is perfect, when it’s not.

I think people will have a lot of fun playing the game once it launches, and I think many may stick around. It’s going to be a breath of fresh air for many of us, with a lot of nostalgia to go around with it for those who played in earlier years of WoW. But, I do feel that many of these players will begin to see the many flaws of the game as they continue to play. You don’t really notice it at first, but they do show up. Whether it’ll make a portion of people quit is another story, but it’s good to recognize the game for not only it’s perfections, but also the flaws.

Many of the things in Classic/Vanilla had not become polished until later expansions, like TBC. I’m not even talking about things to the extent of LFG or anything, I’m talking about small stuff. For instance, simple things like how there’s no always displaying clock, nor does the clock even have an option to change it to your local time zone like it does now(from what I can tell at least).

I do hope to see many of you and your posts about Classic once it launches. I sure as heck will be having a fun time for quite a while. I just don’t know if the small things will add up to a point to make me stop playing. Classic is going to be a game that you’re going to have to accept for all of its many flaws to really enjoy in the end. Whether they end up changing/adding options for the very minor small things over time will be unknown. Have fun in Classic  .

Little things like clocks, timers, etc… will have addons for people who really want them. There will be custom mini maps, custom maps, movable/reshaping hot bars, cast bars, HUDs, and so on.

What if I told you imperfections are beautiful and make something perfect.

The thing is, it’s not only just things addons can fix. It was just one example. I don’t really like using addons either.

I can’t really agree or disagree, I understand it makes the game stand out in its own way, but people are forgetting that classic wasn’t really even perfect when it was new, many of its issues weren’t fixed until much later.

I was mainly addressing those who keep claiming every single aspect of Classic is perfect regardless of anything, even if it was a glaring small issue now, or even then. There’s a number of people who refuse to even acknowledge them.

I think many people will have a love/hate thing with a lot of parts of Classic.

Well the nice thing about Classic is that it will remain static at patch 1.12 - meaning you’ll never have to update all your addons every time the content gets updated.

So you really just need to configure your addons once and you’re good to go forever (presumably)

I havent seen the claims people saying that wow is the perfect game or even the perfect mmo. Mostly what i see is straying into fanboyism over any particular version of the game people enjoyed most.

It is perfectly imperfect.

At the end of the day, it’s fun. I mean really, really fun. And that’s all I expect from a game.

Some posters have been sort of ‘toxic fanboyism’ which basically infers the game being perfect. I’ve seen some posters go around threads where people brought up their issues with the game, and completely dismiss them, because they claim everything is 100% well done.

I created my thread because I want to remind people to make sure they not only acknowledge all of the good aspects, but also the bad. It’s important to know where the game came from, from both its strengths to it’s flaws. A number of posters are forgetting to acknowledge the flaws and seem to dismiss them.

the imperfections are what makes it beautiful

Fault-finding is a mark of chronically dissatisfied, irrational people.

Your concern is duly noted. I’ve chosen to ignore it.

It’s not fault-finding when it’s clearly right in front of your face. I’m not sure what you’re trying to say.

It’s not a good mindset to completely ignore the issues the game(or anything in life) has. It creates a toxic environment for everyone who doesn’t fanboy over the game.

I’m not saying to go around nit-picking every single thing about Classic looking hard to find issues, I’m just saying you have to recognize it for what it is/does.

If people are going to buy into that they are probably going to by in to the hype of other things as well. That being said anyone that wants to try classic has a pretty low bar of entry relaitivve to an entertainment budget. Since its not going full $60 expansion and sub on top you can get in for the small price of $15 for one month.

We do.

And we accept these rough edges. In some cases, we embrace them.

It’s almost as if people have differing opinions about things. It’s amazing, isn’t it?

Let me rephrase what I was trying to say.

Instead of people saying -
Yeah, in Classic that wasn’t really the best thing, but it’s how the game was then, but I think it’s ok like it was.

They say -
Lol, that’s how it was in vanilla, it’s the best WoW ever noob. Go back to BfA rofl #nochanges.

That’s what I hope to see less of in these forums/the game community as a whole.

I haven’t really seen any posts here in this thread like that, which is good.

Understand that for many months, this forum was relatively quiet, but when we did get a newcomer, it was often someone who wanted radical changes (usually class balance changes or something like transmog). And some of those people would clamp on like pitbulls and not let go, so the standard response became very defensive and dismissive.

That’s where a lot of that language comes from.

Might as well ask the waves to stop rolling on to the beach sadly. Though i hope it does get better but passion is one of those things that most people find hard to control, more so online.

To paraphrase Jimmy Dugan from A League of Their Own:

Of course it’s imperfect. If weren’t imperfect it would be boring. The imperfect is what makes it great.

You have to have struggle, hardship and annoyances to appreciate the good. Otherwise you end up bored.

And BfA bores me to death.

My two coppers.
