Dumbest thread I’ve read all week…Summer is not May, game companies do not move up releases as a general rule they push them back.
Just a quick cruise over to WoWwiki indicates that the only documented changes to DireMaul since Vanilla was the removal of the Crescent Key to access two of the three wings, and the level range was changed.
It is possible they may have adjust pat, mob locations and numbers to correspond to the reduced level range + available abilities. But it certainly appears that the most important part for the Classic Devs, the dungeon map itself, was unchanged.
The most time intensive part of “restoring Dire Maul” in Classic is probably the Quality Control aspect where they go through and verify everything is where and as it should be.
Was a good read, but they did say multiple times emphasizing on “Summer” release. My theory is on the first, or worst case scenario second month of summer since they said we will be playing classic during summer. This is all speculation but based off of facts.
Too easy to set it up as an April Fools’ troll announcement.
I believe it will be the month people take the most vacation or when their sales are highest. You have to remember, that the majority of those players that are going to be playing are 25-34, meaning jobs and PTO plays a lot into their sales games at the blizzard.
i really wish they would release a server with everything out at once… 6 months before bwl sounds terrible…
If 2020 is what it takes to get it right, I’m fine with waiting. However, I’m not sure I could deal with the current live service model of “we’ll release it 50% done and then finish it with patches over the next few years.”
Go play a pserver then.
I wouldn’t be surprised if they released just ahead of FF14’s expansion in hopes to pilfer players eager for something, but before they can satisfy themselves with an MMO. At this point nothing is certain.
That would be July 2 or sooner if following that theory. Blizzard is known for releasing expansions and content at same time as other games.
My money would actually be on after. They officially “don’t care” about how well Classic does, and having to compete directly against FFXIV for people’s attention also means that will be that many fewer people to potentially come flooding into the Classic servers when they officially launch.
I’m sure some of them are already starting to have PTSD flashbacks to 15 years ago, they do not want to go there. Anything that might help in preventing things from possibly going from 0 to 15 on a scale of 10 in the span of a week is something they’re going to consider.
Most likely Blizzard goes by financial quarters, because that’s what their investors are going to think when they hear a release date of “Summer”.
In some ways that would be a hilariously apocryphal thing to do. Announce the official return date of Classic “Vanilla” WoW from “its long slumber” just in time for Easter Sunday.
I wonder how many people would get seriously upset about that.
Edit: Plugging it into a calculator for giggles, 84 days before July 16th is April 23rd. Easter Sunday is on the 21st of April. So it looks like the timing would actually be they announce the official return of Classic “Vanilla” WoW a couple days after Easter Sunday instead. If you go with the whole July 16th Release Date and 84 days advance notice.
Speculation, assumptions, random guesses, some blabla, some more speculation, and uhm, even more speculation…
Very useful thread.
most pservers do the progressive model. Actually the huge outcry to have progressive server came from private server people. most notably the youtuber content creators, most of which have only ever experienced vanilla through private servers.
I would be all for progressive content if it included talents and class mechanics but its starting at 1.12 so it seems silly to me to limit itemization behind content gating.
Back when actual new classic servers were released they didn’t gate content like this.
And the government is watching you and aliens abducted you when you were a child and the earth is flat.
Summer release occurs in summer. Get onboard with it. Only setting yourself up for obvious disappointment hoping for anything else.
The conspiracy is real. Blizzard is trying to fool us all but no, you won’t fall for it, you’re too smart.
If they want to seriously upset people, they should announce in on Good Friday and say something like “Two that are now dead shall return.”
I play wow on one of those now while at work. Works great with no graphics on.
I bet they release it this summer, right when they plan to.
The release is on Blizzards time table but just in case I’m going to ask my
magic 8-ball. And its reply “Outlook not so good”
