Everyone’s done all they wanted, Naxx has been farmed to death and interest in classic WoW is declining.
Do you:
A) Let it die. We had our fun.
B) Give players the option to do BC.
C) Create new max level content. Including a new Tier 4 raid. Keeping the rest of the game the same, but adding a little more to the very end.
Create new max level content for Classic. TBC, as many people like to claim it’s their favorite, was the beginning of the end. I liked TBC too, but I didn’t know what I know now
Classic should remain untouched. It’s a museum piece and should stay as such. 10/15/20/30 years from now, someone should be able to level 1-60 on these servers and experience the magic that is Classic.
With that said, I think the natural evolution would be to open TBC servers if Classic is a rousing success. I’m not sure I like “copying” characters from the upcoming Classic servers over to a new TBC server, but maybe just opening some brand new servers where people level thru the original game and then can go thru the dark portal at 58 and start TBC. As long as these Classic realms opening this summer remain as is, it’s all good.
BC servers will come much sooner than 5 years down the road.
What i imagine is fresh Classic servers in a season type of deal for the Classic Fresh server and the subsequent release of BC servers to be in line with said Fresh Servers.
It would make many players want to join these Fresh Servers seasons and BC will be very popular.
Edit:
They may not add Fresh Server type seasons for Classic. But BC Launch will be huge and definitely within 3 years of Classic’s release. It is taking them about 2 years to release Classic and will probably be faster to have a releasable BC server since they know what they’re doing now. Classic WoW is a 2 year time frame, which will be in line with BC release within 3 years of Classic launch. Players will have been in Naxx by this point for quite some time wanting new content.
5 years means we should be on the third server…and about ready to do AQ40.
Or on a tbc/Wotlk if those exist.
I don’t think there’s any reason to suspect that a server can sustain itself for multiple years of content drought… “fresh” servers are a necessity to prevent stagnation and realms becoming too “top heavy”
If you think Naxx will have been farmed to death, you don’t know how Vanilla works. Yeah, the ultra hardcore players that comprise roughly .0001% of the playerbase may have it on farm…on a character or two. Most players won’t. The fact is the content is designed to last many, many years on a single character. Then multiplied even further for x amount of alts.
TBC will need to be out by 2022 at the VERY latest.
The way I see it working is once the first classic servers run through, there will be one perma classic server which will be static. Then a fresh classic server will start, along side a TBC server.
What I am not sure of is if they will do “wacky” style events and gimmicks (think seasons like an action RPG), if they prove to be popular.
I enjoy this type of theorizing too. Things like Hyjal and Grim Batol were probably considered for the original game but didn’t come together in time. We know that Karazhan was originally tapped to be the original game at some point, but was postponed to TBC.
