Classic fishing skill won't raise from 2/300

Good day! Can anyone tell me how I might raise my classic fishing skill level, please? I’ve only tried fishing in Stormwind and Ironforge, so far, but I’ve only been able to raise it one point by doing a daily fishing quest.

At 2/300 skill level, I should be catching weeds and grey vendor trash still, but I’m also catching regular fish instead. I don’t have any modifiers that I’m aware of. I’m using a regular fishing pole. Again, I’ve tried fishing next to the fishing trainers in Stormwind and Ironforge, but the skill just won’t raise at all. I’m unsure what I’m doing wrong, as I haven’t run into this before. Any suggestions and feedback would be greatly appreciated.

Fish out in the world, capital cities give shadowlands fishing levels.

At this point I would expect capital cities to be giving points in Khaz Algar fishing.

Profession skilling can be weird now. I was skinning in the Draenai starting area getting the expected ruined leather scraps and light leather watching my skill go up, so imagine my surprise when I popped the achievement for Outland skinning. My Classic skinning was still at 1. (Yes, I know those zones were added in Burning Crusade so it’s the right expansion, but I still think it’s weird.)

Run out to Elwynn Forest and fish in one of the streams/lakes there. Outside the capital.

Classical fishing worked as expected outside of the capital cities. I had missed that those count towards Shadowland now. Though I wasn’t getting any skill ups for that expansion, either.

Thats bizarre. Glad you asked or I wouldnt know this was a thing now.
