Classic + Feature Suggestion: World player housing

I would like to recommend the following feature for a “Classic Plus” experience that fundamentally changes world engagement in zones already explored and leveled through:

Non-Instanced Placeable Player Housing.

  • Limited Areas in zones will have the ability to have a pre-determined structure design if the area has enough space to accommodate it.
  • Structures appear on all layers of the same server.
  • Structures interior can be customized via collectables and store options and comes completely empty by default.
  • Owners may set permission for entry.
  • Owners must upkeep structure with in-game soulbound material (not just gold) to maintain plots for active players.

Similar Features in Other MMO games:

  • Ultima Online featured persistent world player housing
  • Archeage featured persistent world player housing

Differences in other games today:
Many of the other popular MMOs today have leaned into instanced housing and in a way World of Warcraft attempted this as well during Warlords of Draenor, but failed to execute an experience that would continue to engage players socially and with the game world. Instanced housing creates an entire sub-universe of the game that has limited visibility and access to others. No incentives for further development as the lack of customization limits the number of collectables and store items that are applicable to Garrisons.

Alternative solutions:
Instanced Neighborhoods such as those found in Lord of the Rings Online and Final Fantasy XIV are a possible alternative that is instanced, allows for social interactions, and can be deployed as a zoneable area allowing for reimagining of certain areas of the game. I don’t favor this.

Styles:
Imagine placing down houses that are designed after those found in the traditional RTS version of Warcraft, or other structures found in Blizzard universe that allows players to feel like they live in Azeroth.

Conclusion:
World based player housing would be a great feature for Classic Plus experience as the game seeks to recapture players under the new Microsoft banner. This gets into the METAVERSE of things where limited land space makes economy and playing the game a valuable social experience. This not only would increase social interactions in abandoned zones, but would be an entire alternative game loop to increase player engagement in the WoW Client.

Having to fight with you folks for the privelege to pay Blizz more money is, quite possibly, one of the worst ideas of all time. This is pet rock levels of horrible.

Also, not to put too fine a point on it, but y’all have terrible taste.

I really don’t want to see the ugly houses you plop down all over the countryside.

Ultima Online (UO) had this and it was pretty cool. Not sure it will translate well into Azeroth because the zones are constructed differently and you have mobs/quests all over the map where players need to go. In UO nobody really needed to go by the area where your house was. Another cool thing UO had were boats. Imagine placing a temporary boat on the water and sailing to go fishing.

You will look at my mid century modern dwelling and love it. Forget huts.

You didn’t get your fishing raft from Nat Pagle?

Ours was built in '49 and I love it… It’s all windows.

It would look amazing on a sky island in Nagrand.

Sounds like people I see in city planning meetings IRL. I don’t think your feedback for the suggestion is at all useful.

whoa so it did or would possibly

Even disagreement as seen here is a social interaction and counts as engagement.
Can’t wait to have an orc that objects to the gnomish modern treehouse in Nagrand as a member of the Garadar HOA.

Would a hug help, friend?

One look at your post history shows this is all you do. Small snide comments followed up with accusations of emotional projection. Here is the attention you ordered.

Dude, you sound like you’re getting twisted because someone disliked your idea. Let it go.

It’s probably never gonna happen in Classic wow because the game wasn’t designed for it. Where is the incentive for the company to add it? You really want to buy houses in the game shop? Pay rent/upkeep? Classic doesn’t really need gold sinks so not sure that role play or immersion is enough to sell the idea to developers.

I’d prefer they fix bugs and broken things before adding new stuff.

The offer of a hug still stands, friend.

Look, Its not complicated. If you have nothing better to do than troll on the forums then I literally have zero issue with thinking you opinions are worthless. You and Glinda can fight for the trophy of worst human beings online all day and it won’t matter.

It ends up not being my thing apparently, except in full terrain deformation voxel games ala NMS, Minecraft, Planet Explorers, etc.

Plus I don’t think there’s enough space at all, wouldn’t like 90% of the playerbase be SOL?

Anywho a fun idea would be to incorporate Rogue gameplay such as setting traps for the owner, being trapped themselves, and ofc a Little Lite Looting.

Whoa, whoa whoa!

Hold up there, cowboy!

Asma isn’t even in the same weight class.

They’re about the nicest person on the forum.

So much so that they’ll even defend my posts if they think they’re being attacked unfairly.

cool idea but they will never add this to classic friend.

I stated why I believe your idea is a poor one.
But go off I guess rather than stay on topic.

In game “currencies”? Nah bijoux are one thing (and they are able to be traded) but going retail? That’s got no business in Classic.

Not allowing all characters to claim a space by limiting it to a worthiness standard is not inclusive and doesn’t really promote engagement.

So the art deparment (if there is one of any size for specifically Classic) is gonna be busy churning out new items in game and for the shop. Wonder how players will feel about more attractive options going directly to the shop? See General Discussion for retail if you aren’t familiar with the response.

It sounds nice for you.
But it’s a poorly conceived idea.

I ain’t even mad.

To be fair, we’re discussing “worst people on the internet”.

It was a compliment.
