Why are there so many servers still?
I think it because they’re all pretty much linked in terms of auction house and battlegrounds so it doesn’t matter much.

Yeah true. I don’t bother with anything other than whitemane these days. Do you get ganked while levelling? Yes, yes you do. But at lvl 60 it’s almost a non-issue so whatever.
Really there arent, its like retail with how the servers are soft merged into big clusters.

I have no data to back this claim.
There is a very vocal minority of players who are all about “the journey”. The type of person who never gets tired of the barrens, even if they have leveled 100 horde characters. This is the person who likely reads the every quest’s text. They are the ones who petition to ban boosting.
If they were a majority, you wouldn’t see most the players on era happily doing their thing (pvp, parsing, etc) on geared level 60s. A lot of the era regulars dislike “the journey” enough that they don’t play, or at least don’t focus on, seasonal realms.
What do you want? Do you have a suggestion?
They allocated a ton of resources and made mergers a thing. There are what? 6 clusters? East versus West versus RP, RPPVP, Normal and PVP, so…
What would you like to see? Why? At what cost, and what is the expected ROI?

Most annoying thing about this is seeing -Whitemane after everyone’s name. When you get in a large group it’s actually a lot of text that fills up tooltips and the interface. Only reason I switched to Whitemane was to cut down on all that added text.

Many realms are clustered together by type. Here’s a thread that sheds a bit more light on how these are organized. It also makes an attempt to indicate populations relative to each other.
Blizzard’s in-game UI should be updated to better represent how things are setup these days… but I doubt that will come haha.
