We all been seeing “/2 Trading my Classic era gold for your Wotlk gold” past few months and I think anyone whose been playing knows whats going on, maybe not so much newer players coming in from hardcore. But yesterday one of this advertisers got real ignorant and even told people in their ad “if you dont have wotlk gold you can buy a wow token and trade it for classic gold”. We all know whats going on, lets not rub it in everyones face and get people mad that dont realize this is a PTW game.
I just wanted to post to see what everyones opinion is on this, and how much of you actually do this? I see a lot of people say they want the wow token just for the bots. What do yall think on the topic?
IMO, this is RWT. Just because its the same title, its two totally different games. You changing another currency for classic gold. Gold from MMOs should be on the Foreign Exchange Market
wow p2w lol… Have you ever played p2w in your life? You guys don’t seem to know the misfortune of having played one… a recomendation join a guild and stop playing rogue, play a support if you’re gonna cry at this point of the game.
trade gold for monthly sub/ blizzard games have happened since the real vanilla i guess, i know that happened a lot in vanilla wotlk.
you’re very smart when you say “wow” is a p2w game, not even retail is p2w.
It has nothing to do with the game that you are not responsible enough to be in a guild, if you pug what can you expect from a pug?
If you are looking for the opposite effect you will only make Blizzard implement the legal token in Classic Era so that they do not trade gold between different expansions.
Does having gold guarantee you that the item drops? Are the items bought this way exclusive to that specific loot system?
The game was not designed to be a P2W game. Players bidding for items with gold is not making the game P2W as the RNG still factors in.
P2W means skipping any work/effort to obtain powerful items that are either only obtainable via micro transaction or by paying to bypass RNG.
WoW has none of that.
While I dislike this loot method, it is not making the game pay to win. It’s silly to me that people do this instead of raiding normally for gear but I am not every player. (please read that last bit to the tune of “I am every woman”)
But do you know why kids love Cinnamon Toast Crunch?
why are you assuming issues that I have in the game? I just dont like using real world money for to purchase things in game and saturates the market. I have a guild, I play the game. If you can buy gold to upgrade gear faster having an advantage over people who dont, its pay to win essentially. it isn’t rocket science. “If youre looking for the opposite effect” I dont expect Blizzard to do nothing because it sells more Wotlk tokens. And that isnt why Blizz implements Wow tokens, they do it to rid bots. This is a unique situation trading between wow tokens. All I’m saying is, there are people who run away from retail and wotlk for this type of stuff, and for someone to publicly advertise how to do it is where it gets cheeky. Say youre trading gold for gold, whatever, but keep it in the “black market”
While it does not increase the drop rate, your odds of acquiring the item goes up proprotional to the amount of gold you’re willing to spend on it.
The term “pay to win” usually describes a more direct transaction, typically between the player and the game’s developer; however, I do think this is an appropriate interpretation. Players who purchase gold and use that gold on their character’s progression do have a significant advantage over those who don’t.
It’s interesting that even though P2W is typcially disparranged by players, in the absence of an official method they have created it for themselves.
Irony for sure. My main issue I have with most P2W (despite being a whale in actual P2W games) is the exchange rates for real world money into fake currencies for the game. Can’t speak for all but myself and some friends dislike overly predatory exchanges like that.
The choices of players don’t change the intent of the game. Plenty still raid outside of the GDKP/Carry model and those models have not been adopted as game design.
sure, however there are other systems for loot distribution that give priority on things to certain raiders, etc. Which is, to me, a more safe bet for acquiring loot than being outbid in a GDKP.
To quote Star Wars, “There’s always a bigger fish”.
It’s a quesiton of impact. There’s no denying that GDKP has taken over. Whereas in the early days of Classic 2019 and before you could easily find yourself a regular PuG raid if, for whatever reason, joining a guild wasn’t for you. Now GDKP is much more prevalent.
I liken this to how boosting changed the landscape of PuG leveling groups. Sure, at the height of Classic 2019 you could still find yourself a normal dungeon group, it was just a lot harder because most folks were either boosting or getting boosted.
This is a similar situation. While you can still go join a guild or form your own group, your opportunities have diminished because a lot of folks are now in GDKP runs. It’s much more enticing to purchase gold and just get carried to gear you pay for than it used to be, which further fuels the cycle.
Just like you’re free to grind out rewards in your standard P2W title, you can still do it the traditional way in WoW. It’s just that you’re probably in the minority now and everybody is outpacing you.
It’s a funky time to be a WoW Classic player right now.
