So I am trying to understand something. What im trying to understand is that I am leveling as a healer, and for this char I want to level it with Dungeons for a test. What im not understanding is the following. If Deadmines can be joined at level 10, Designed by blizzard… Then why is every group i have applied for when i reached 15, telling me i have to be 21 to do deadmines. Literally can que for it at 15 with the que system.
Is it just my server, or whats going on here. Im not understanding, I mean Hell you can do Stocks at 21
You can enter the instances at low level, however you are ineffective and a liability when you are too low of a level. Ideally you never want to be more than four levels below the end boss, probably five max.
I usually look at what level NPCs are in the dungeon, especially towards the end. Tank will have to be around that level to not be crushed all the time and hold aggro.
For DM most of npcs are lvl 18-20, final boss is lvl 21, so around that level is fine. (https://classic.wowhead.com/the-deadmines#npcs:0-2+1). But a lot of people prefer 20+ because a lot of good spells open at that level.
For Stockades, trash is like 24-25, while bosses go up to level 29, so I would look into going there at level 26 ish minimum. (https://classic.wowhead.com/the-stockade#npcs)
Of course as a healer you have more leeway, but if you’re too low level you will aggro mobs from farther and will have a harder time keeping up with tanks health.
Yeah any group who says the healer needs to be 21 for DM is trash. A reasonable and patient group can clear it with no one over 20. 15 may be a bit low still, but high teens is normal and a healer could probably get away with it at 16 if they’re good and careful, 17 for sure.
Healers can get away with being more lower level than the rest of the party, in relation to the level of mobs in the dungeon.
Since healers don’t need to hit the mobs, the level difference isn’t as relevant (as long as your heals are already strong enough to keep the party alive, of course.)
That said… if you are too low level for the dungeon you need to be VERY careful, because you will aggro the mobs from far away and this can lead to messy pulls.
I’d recommend level 18 for Deadmines if you want the entire run to go smoothly and last less than 2 hours.
There’s no Dungeon queue in Classic because they suck (Dungeon Finder I mean). In old-school MMORPGs, you talked to people while you ran dungeons. It was fundamentally a social experience, which is a large part of what made it fun. Modern MMORPG developers are, apparently, too god damn stupid to realize this.
it’s the players, not the devs.
They only sell the products that make the most money.
You can see this in how all of the retail kids are playing Classic, always “Gogogo RUSHRUSH 60”. It’s like, bruh, chill. You’ll be 60 forever, enjoy the leveling process, screw around in zones below your level helping lowbies.
If your planning on doing this i would advise making groups yourself. It will be faster then hoping others decide to take a slightly under leveled healer.
When LBRS was 10 man we brought a lvl 51 warrior with us for fun. He aggroed the mobs under neath the cliff and the entire instance came running at us. True story. It was great.
I half agree with you. The players do drive the development to a degree. However, if there was no call for old-school MMORPGs the number of Classic servers wouldn’t have quintupled during the first week.
Clearly, there’s an audience for both the new and old.
Blizzard sort of set them up to be attempted at least a couple times. So if everyone is low level you are not expected to finish it but to get in far enough for a couple or so bosses. Quests often do not have enough items to drop for the whole group if everyone has same said quest(s). Uldaman is certainly one that has a wide level difference from beginning to end. Mara too.
But the player base is ‘farm/level up’ in dungeons mode.
Download Atlasloot OP. You can generally get a sense of what level you need to be from the drops.
Deadmines, for example–drops range from 16-20, though the last 4 require 18+ (or 20 for the final boss). 18 is the perfect level for dps. As other mentioned, as a healer, you can get away with a lower level. Too low though and you risk aggroing otherwise skippable mobs! I wouldn’t go below 17 as a healer for that reason, but that’s just me being extra careful.
I wouldn’t recommend being more than three below the last boss (or at least the last boss you plan on doing, for larger dungeons like BRD), especially if you’re the tank. At three below you start getting a ton of miss/parry/resist/glancing/crushing, and enough of those in a row can ruin your day.
Healers can sort of fudge on this, but it’s not recommended because you might be missing a critical spell rank that vastly increases your throughput.
Plus of course, wide level spreads between the party mean aggro radii are inconsistent and face pulls will happen.
It’s probably just your server. Healers are completing DM in their late teens. For all instances, the healer can get carried easier than other classes. Their heals always hit, and with full effectiveness.
That said, if your group sucks, you are not going to carry them as an underlevel healer.
As a warrior, I will not go to deadmines unless I am level 20.
Yes, you can go to deadmines when you are level 15, but it doesn’t mean you will successfully clear the content. You don’t mind group wipes, but other people do. Some people are frustrated with group wipes, corpse run are wasting time.
That’s why I will only go to deadmines when I reach level 20 and I will not join a group if other people are below level 20.
Personally I only sign up for dungeons if I am within 3 levels of the final boss as a dps. When you start getting too low you end missing most of your attacks and are basically worthless.
Healer though you are fine much lower since you don’t have to worry about your level compared to the enemy, your heals don’t miss.
