Sometimes when I tried to log into classic my computer crashes and forces a complete restart. I get stuck at with the background of the log in screen for a second and then I get the blue screen that restarts my computer. Don’t know what the problem is.
I have this problem too. No issues during the stress test. I have played wow for years with no issues. Same thing happens when I try to load retail as well. Deleted my addons yesterday for classic and got logged on once. Having the same issues today though
I was able to just log in. Here are all the steps I took:
-
I had an expired version of Mcaffe antivirus that kept giving my annoying popups and wanting me to subscribe. I uninstalled that.
-
I checked and made sure my windows defender was up to date. It was. However, I noticed in my firewall settings my home wifi was set to “public” not “private”, so I switched it to show that I was on a private network.
-
I downloaded malwarbytes and ran a full scan. No threats were found.
-
I checked with Nvidia geforce experience and I had a driver update that came out today I guess? I did the driver update.
-
I deleted all my addons
I was able to log in after these steps. I also was able to get in once last night without doing any of these things. However, I hope my problem is solved now. I will post back if the issue returns
Just tried to get back on after a quick break. Same probably as earlier. Login screen freezes and it forces my computer to restart. It is so weird. Been playing BFA and classic stress test on this machine for over a year now with no problems ever until launch yesterday
Hi Brackle
Let’s check that McAfee is good and gone. There is a tool called MCPR.exe midway down this McAfee support page:
You will need to click the chat bubble in bottom right corner to make page work.
Create a System Restore point < type that in Windows Search box. Then run the Tool.
After my last post, I decided to uninstall classic and reinstall. When I came back after dinner, I was able to log in and play no problem. I played for about four hours. After I logged off to go to bed, I decided to make sure I could relaunch the game and connect. I was greeted with another frozen screen. This time it did not force my computer to restart but it just stayed frozen on the connecting screen. I couldn’t do anything. I wasn’t able to alt tab or ctrl alt delete out.
I came back to the post after my most recent problem. I saw and have run the MCPR tool. Once that was complete I tried to load the game again and encountered the same problem.
Perhaps tomorrow I will try to repair the game instead of uninstalling it?
Super weird! Same machine ive had for the last 12 months, no problems ever until launch yesterday
Hi Brackle
There seem to be the usual number of bugs to iron out with a new release. It’s a bit of a shot in the dark - try reinstalling the Battlenet App.
Step 5 of the guide is important - delete the Battlenet tools folder
I gave this a try but no luck. Same problem still. A weird thing did happen though. Once the battlenet app was reinstalled it showed that I had overwatch/diablo/hearthstone installed but it didnt find BFA or classic installed. I tried using the “locate game” button but it said the pathway was incorrect. I hit “install” for classic wow and it went from installing->updating->ready to play all in under 30 sec.
I will try some more troubleshooting tomorrow!
If anyone else is still having this problem, I may have gotten it solved. I checked my system drive and haven’t had the issue since. I found a guide that had things to try and this one may have done the trick:
Tap the Windows key and type cmd , but don’t hit Enter. Instead, right-click on the Command Prompt icon and select Run as administrator . Windows will pop up a prompt asking if you want to let the app make changes. Click Yes .
Now type the following to attempt to perform a disk check:
chkdsk /f /r
You’ll see an error message telling you that the scan can’t be performed until the system restarts. Press Y to confirm. Now restart Windows to perform a hard disk check.
