Classic Client Disk Space

I’m thinking about getting into WoW with the Classic release but am unable to install the current retail client because the installer says the minimum required of 60GB disk space is not met.

I’ve only got a laptop to play on with its 118GB sized SSD. Been using disk usage analysis utilities, windows clean-up utilities and BleachBit tmp/bckup file remover utility to lean out the used space as much as possible.

After uninstalling everything I don’t need on a daily basis and using the above clean-up utilities I’ve managed to get the free disk space up to 54.5GB. Which is still not enough to get the WoW client installed.

I assume a lot of the current clients space is occupied by content I have no intention of experiencing outside Classic. Is there any chance WoW Classic will use a seperate much smaller client or will retail client have smarter installation options that can help reduce its disk space requirements?

there’s no easy way to know this right now, but i personally doubt it will be a whole ton smaller. if you’re that close on space, it might be smaller enough that it fits though.

the reason i doubt it’ll be lots smaller is the way they have it setup is that any warcraft games can share a big chunk of the game files. so for example retail and the ptr will all have a big chunk of core files that they share, then you can install the separate client with a smaller installation. this was a recent change and i imagine classic will fit in with this. so i’m guessing the bulk of the install will be shared with retail.
