CLassic Classes Breakdown

Id like to apologize for the yucky looking post.
This is a revamp of classes in classic.
this is an experience based post.

Paladins-DPS was probably the worst it had ever been in classic, you had auto attack and judgement that was on a long CD so sustainable DPS was failure.
Tank- well you didn’t tank you had no taunt, you coudnt maintain agro with more than 1 mob.
Healing-you supported main healers and most of the time you were rebuffing blessings that lasted 5 mins.

Warriors-Medium to med-high ranges in DPS.
Tanks- you were the go to and the best tank in classic, yet you lacked a lot of AOE but could hold agro better than any other class.
Note: warriors are very gear based and its a struggle leveling as you well die a lot to mobs. warriors well become more enjoyable at 60 in pre tier blues, and in epics you well be an unstoppable monster.

Mages- Masters of crowd control higher range dps in raids and pvp. challenging class to master, it well take practice and learning what works best when playing a mage to do well.
Note: easy to level with fun to play but intellect well be your greatest ally or greatest foe, so gear based on intellect.

Priest- well priests healed they were main healers in raids and pvp.
Shadow dps- you well struggle to keep melee off of you, without a supporting class you well have a hard time in PVP, as for raids you well give med dps as you have one channeled ability with a dot to sustain dps.

Warlocks - another medium range dps, but you well do well leveling with pets, mediocre in pvp , and you well be the summoning stone for your raid.

Druids - DPS and only dps is cat, moonkin well lets say moonkin didn’t exist in classic it was a joke blizzard put into the game.
Tanks- you well tank up to level 40 then after that you wont ever do it again. No AOE and squishy to heal as a tank at 40+
Healing- druids do well as a healer in raids as main healers and had the best buff in vanilla, along with raid wide AOE heal that is absolutely needed.

Hunters- Good DPS in raids and pvp, melee did not exist in classic.
leveling was a great class to level with easy to play but can get boring quickly as your always shooting
Note: you do need to make or buy ammo and buy a bag to carry it in can be annoying and can lose you a spot in a raid later game.

Shaman- DPS melee was great in PVP and in raids, elemental was well the moonkin of shaman.
Healing- one of the best for healing, both support and raid wide heals, totems made easy to cast then blessing from their counter parts paladins only available as horde.
leveling is easy and fun probably one of the most rewarding classes to play in classic.

Formatting mansss, wall of text posting is work!

Seems like a passive aggressive post against Paladins tbh.

Hah! HAHAHAHAHAHA! By good DPS you mean dead last amongst pure DPS classes, right? We got to hang out with the Enhancement Shamans and the OOMkins.

Hey now shamans and oomkins bring good buffs. Hunters just bring tranq shot

I feel that people really put a damper on paladins. I played a paladin for the entirety of vanilla. Probably the most fun I had in my WoW career.

Yes the buffs (When they were 5 minutes was cumbersome constantly rebuffing.) But eventually that got changed. And pretty sure the current version were getting is getting the 15 minute buffs.

I ALWAYS topped healing charts. Paladin healers once you got a little bit of gear you were unstoppable with pvp and pve in regards to healing. Not to mention the utility you brought to PVP and PVE that IMHO it severally outweighed Paladins short comings in regard to tanking and DPS.

Do I wish they were stronger DPS and tanks, yes. However, you brought so much more to PVP and PVE in regards to utility and healing that i feel it far outweighed their short comings. Just my two cents. I loved paladin. And this is coming from someone who famred the timbermaw rep for my enchanting solo on my paladin as a holy paladin. It was slow, but you couldnt kill me.

Oh and if you got close to killing me . . . shield hearth, adios!

Enhance was the hands down worst melee spec in the game, and in the running for worst overall dps spec in the game for PvE (moonkin waste debuff slots AND oom super fast)…Also don’t believe the pvp highlight videos, they where also the worst melee spec in the game for PvP. Contrary to the HL reels, Windfury only has a 20% proc rate and the chances of critting with a 25% chance 2-4x to get those big burst numbers you see are hilariously slim.

Elemental, actually was one of the top scaling caster dps in the game, and the main thing keeping them from viability by Naxxramas was simple mana issues.
They could somewhat mitigate the mana issues by downranking to the proper rank of Lightning Bolt for the fight duration and downing mana consumables like a future mana starved blood elf/nightborne but it came at a dps cost. Also, since their main benefit was from scaling, they also started out much weaker than they ended up.

Just curious, did that also include the overhealing charts?

Unless you are pulling healing aggro noone gives a flying rats as* about overheal Just chop it off and go by needed healing.

haha i knew someone was going to bring that up! At first yes you are absolutely correct. However, once i learned what that was (because i was really young at the time) Then i started playing with spell rankings more and matching the spell rank heal with the amount of healing needed for the player. And then once again back on top baby!

Did you ever do Twin Emps as a healer? Overhealing sure as hell matters. As the person I was talking to responded to just below you.

No he is talking about down ranking for efficiency rating. Over heal is most often from having multiple healers on the same target…or someone healing your target when you don’t need them to. The 2nd persons heal becomes over heal. If you are casting a 10K heal on 1K damage thats not over heal thats a moron heal.

Part of me is glad the OP forgot about Rogues.

Literally, overhealing directly corresponds to wasted mana. There are plenty of fights where if your overhealing is too high, the raid will wipe when you go OOM at 20%.

I completely agree with you here. Overhealing mattered two fold. One, the potential to pull aggro and wipe the raid and two, mana conservation. Especially on twin emps. Damn that was a long fight, at least for our little guild.

I was in both a server 1st MC guild and server 1st BWL guild and I never had issues with running out of mana or pulling aggro with a good tank.

If you are pulling healing aggro off the tank in 1.12 your tank either has no gear or is dps/pvp spec.

If you are running out of mana either your gear is bad, you are using heals at the wrong time (learn to heal) or again the tank is dps/pvp spec.

Last overheal happens mainly from multiple healers on the same tank or from people cross healing when its not needed. Most people assume you already know how to actually heal when in endgame content.

Feel like 80% of the post is just dead wrong. Paladins didnt “support” healers and had 15 minute buffs.

Druids make better tqnks 1-60 then warriors unless that warrior is leveling as prot.

Hunters were “good” dps for 1 raid tier. Then class changes and poor scaling made them quickly obsolete minus about 3 hunters. Also melee hunters exsisted with nightfall.

Shadow priests arent medium dps they are rather low infact. Their main purpose is shadow weaving to support warlocks which is why raids allowed 1.

Sadly not in classic most of the classes didn’t get buffed until just before BC released.

Druids didn’t make good tanks until pre AQ gates opening. paladins didn’t get 15 minute buffs until Naxx which was also 8 months before the prebc class changes. and when I talk about ranges in dps medium is pretty low. Im also basing this off of what people who never played classic say about classes in vanilla.
