Classic + Class Changes [Mega thread?]

WoW Classic Community INPUT NEEDED

With most of us all praying for a release of classic + (hopefully announced at blizzcon this year with a launch date november-january 2026-2027 I wanted to create a mega thread in which Potiential Class Changes in order to maybe even possibly assist the classic team in determining how much or how little to add to the game.

Rules: I will only post about classes in which I know and have played, I am requesting the community to put their input into this forum and all comments with a POSITIVE review for other classes/specs ( we’ll say 5 likes , adjusting accordingly ) . I am hoping this thread gets a big following and a bunch of input from experienced and even new classic players so WHEN we get a classic+ launch classes are NEW and UPDATED without being completely overhauled and stay respectful to their Original classic wow ancestors.

3. Mage

4. Priest

Holy
Shadow

5. Rogue

Assassination
Combat

6. Shaman
—All Specs

  1. All Spells mana reduced cost from 50%. [Reason-Shamans have the fastest OOM rate of any classes making them “meme specs” because it is impossible to optimize your rotation with mana cost of abilities being as high as they are.
  2. Totem GCD .5 Sec (like TBC)
  3. Ghost Wolf able to use all times(similar to retail, including death) and cast time reduced by 1 second, so if talented ghost wolf will be insta cast. (similar to tbc)

Elemental
Enhancement

  1. Stormstrike Rework
  • CD reduced to 10-12 seconds
  • Debuff changed to self Buff lasting 8-10 seconds
  • Empowers your next Lightning spell, Lightning Bolt and Chain Lightning Become instant casts however chain lightning damage reduced by 50%. [This specific change is super experimental but seems SUPER cool]
  1. Fire Nova Totem CD Reduced to 14, as 15 is an odd number and doesnt make sense with GCD/CD

Truthfully with the reduction in mana costs for Totems and spells, the change to Stormstrike with its buff instead of debuff slot and empowering SS the enhance shaman rotation will be very unique and exciting and viability making fire nova totem a core rotational spell and incorporating shamans most class identifying spell chain lightning.

  • The reason i didnt mention dualwielding is because Hunter/Warrior and Rogue all dual wield where as Druid/Paladin/Shaman mainly focus 2h an even 50/50 split reducing competition for gear HOWEVER it is a valid argument alot of people would like to see implemented, I would rather it be a talent in which you decide if you want to dual wield or 2h although this could be a nightmare in balancing. TOTALLY open for debate or change if DW feedback is majority positive.

7. Warlock

Affliction
Demonology
Destruction

8. Warrior

Arms
Fury
Protection

I Will Update this AS MUCH as possible minimum every other day

Any “classic+” blizz makes is just going to be SoD 2.0, aka retail minus. SoD showed that the devs have no idea what made vanilla special, because they removed all of those things in SoD.

thank you for your constructive feedback.

Make all classes and specs viable for all content is all I ask.

Traps in combat.

No deadzone.

Focus instead of mana.

Auto shots while moving.

Pretty much a lot of the changes we got in other expansions lol.

I’d like to see all (meme) specs be more up to par with each other ideally, but this can be hard to balance for pve & pvp, I’m not quite as married to this idea as just that classic+ should be an improvement. This is in comparison to TBC which can be seen as classic+ in the worst of ways, kind of like SOD. Though in both cases each of those versions of ‘wow’ has their fan boys, I’d probably rest my case on things like vanilla pvp working well because it’s a beautiful mess and it has a lot of it. Compared to TBC which brought in the arena nightmare which, through no fault of its own watered down and catered to the confusion of what ‘skill’ is with all its crowd problems, along with RNG in bad ways, like cloak of shadows not being 100% resist, that’s a joke. Vanilla has tons of RNG and adaptability with homogenization available to all like engineering, so it’s much less of a problem, it’s more a staple of vanilla design.

My main desire is for PvP to be better and balanced. More gear options or gear crunch so we don’t have the scaling problems we do around AQ40, or past it- Naxx, or we did in SOD/retail. Power creep problems were very apparent, though I understand everyone’s desire for “more stats on gear.”

For PvP, this is as you say more about feedback and think tanking, I would just ask people to reflect long and hard about how it would affect all of PvP as a whole. Even for people that are very experienced in PvP there’s still problems of ‘what they know’ so a skill capped fire mage that only does duels & premades all day and doesn’t know other classes that well is probably going to have a very different outlook on how classes should be balanced around duels, bgs, wpvp and premades than say a warrior. I’ll say more about this with the two provided quotes.

Paladin: Add dual wielding and change seals to work differently when dual wielding (so it retains old PPM mechanics) it’s unreal to me that Scarlet Crusade has badass myrmidons in SM that own people and even in SOD we still had no dual wielding, wtf was that? 100000% missed opportunity, make it happen Blizz.

There’s a lot that paladin are missing in a sense but they’re already a swiss multi tool, so if you give them stuff it can easily turn into a problem.

The ‘wotlk APM spammy’ style should be avoided, this was a problem in SOD, too, where all classes and specs just pressed buttons and people died with no thinking or consequences, rogues front stab spamming, paladins spamming CS & DS whenever off CD. It’s a brainless bad class and game design.

Crusader Strike can, maybe should be in the game but to avoid this it should be a longer CD at 6-10+ seconds not 4.5 like WOTLK

I like Turtle Wows seal/judge/crusader strike/holy strike mechanics which works more like heroic strike from warriors, but holy damage and stacking holy damage for crusader strike like the high level Scarlet mobs/original Alpha vanilla idea.

The PvE DPS problem is solved by dual wielding & upping vengeance scaling, it could be solved other ways, too.

Paladin could use; CS, DS, kick/interrupt, divine stead or reverse, the death knight “get over here” Scorpion grab, more mana returns (like sanctified judgements/sod stuff) snare, roots, ranged attacks and slows, mortal strike, other spell schools so you don’t get kicked on one spell and locked out of everything. There’s a ton paladins COULD use, but if you gave them a lot of stuff they’d be incredibly broken. Kinda gotta pick & choose what you think works best and thematically as well.

Shamans seem to be designed around ‘high damage and healing’ (compare flash of light to the equivalent shaman heal) with ‘staying in there’ (no travel form shapeshifting to break poly, roots, no shield wall, divine shield, iceblock, vanish, evasion) the mana cost is basically one of the only class design weaknesses. How do you expect most classes to fight shaman when shaman has the best dmg-time-mana ratios now? Maybe an exaggeration but you get my point.

I guess separately I kind of like these shaman changes because they do buff shamans without changing the feel of the class too much. Alone it seems bad, in addition with other class changes it could be great.

I think hunters would be busted with these changes but I’m very interested in seeing hunters play test this out in PvP so we can actually get a good idea of how hunters should be tuned. With (some?) of these changes, too, we can start just adding or removing stuff or reducing or increasing scaling of hunter damage, be it weapons or abilities like aimed shot / multi shot.

Oh, I’d add more damage to arcane shot for hunters, not a ton, but a bit more so it’s more useful for things like hitting a paladin through BoP

I might add a (global?) self dot break or something like skull to hunters.

Hunters have a ton of generally untapped potential in melee weaving and using a 2h on the separate auto timer than the ranged weapon, but a lot of times when hunters want to win and not be CCd they’re running skull which ruins the that idea and the threat of having a beefy 2H with raptor strike crits

Mongoose strike should be buffed, I’d probably go with +10% of weapon damage and buff/nerf from there

I’d be happy with at least getting rid of the deadzone (because it’s stupid) and getting focus to replace mana since they had plans to do that from the start, but ran out of time and launched them with a mana bar.

I can FD+ Trap no problem, so I can live without traps in combat, but maybe a lower cooldown on feign death would be nice.

Hmm

For boomkin, if I could get starfall, eclipse, some mana return talents, perhaps typhoon as well for PvP I’d be pretty happy with that

Perhaps can cast wrath while moving but if you are moving it does 25% less damage

Holy Priest: Fix Lightwell properly

Shadow Priest: Make crit desirable

These do not need to wait for classic + though.

Give feral a weapon and head slot they can use.

So can someone explain the difference between SoD and classic+?

Whatever they do keep seal twisting for Ret. It’s a good skill filter to keep bad players from dominating in PvP while allowing the spec to perform in PvE.

Feral Druid*

Ferals can talk to NPC’s and perform other various actions while in forms.

Weapon enchants with an ‘on hit’ text will work while in forms.

Mangle replaces claw and is usable in both bear and cat forms.

WHH gets baked into another helm or integrated into a talent.

Rip and rake scale better from attack power.

Ferocious bite either gets better energy to damage conversion rates, or just uses a flat 35 energy.

Bear swipe scales from attack power and generates more threat.
