Classic Characters will they let us play them in retail?

I’m going to be playing The War Within and was wondering if they might allow us to continue playing with our characters from Classic? I have much more attachment to my classic characters than my old retail ones. Would be a shame to waste all of them…

Isn’t the entire point of Classic to have a hard divide from Retail?

That was before Cata was announced

That’s the $1,000,000 question.

They originally said “no.” They are separate. And by saying that. Many folks who didn’t want to play classic didn’t.

If they come out and say “yes.” Some folks are going to be upset because it allows people to bring items that are unobtainable in modern, but we’re obtainable in Classic, back to modern.

They’d be going back on their word. Which is we’ve seen from mage tower skins. They haven’t done.

Interesting… how much could I make from my haunted mementos?

There’s been no indication of that in the WoW: What’s Next talk, nor the WoW Deep Dive talk at Blizzcon.

The Shop Page still says that character transfers are not allowed between Classic and Retail, and there were a LOT of Shop changes (mostly related to new expansion for Retail) that dropped on Day 1 of Blizzcon.

I would not get your hopes up, as it seems very, very unlikely to me, but never say never.

I mean, if they allowed progress and items to carry over, then I’d actually play Classic. Give me some transmog and mounts to chase and I’m golden. Outside of that, it’s not my thing. The game has changed too much since those days, and there’s a lot of QoL features I can’t play without.

Why would they do that? Seriously.

Pretty much! Blizz has stated a number of times that they will keep the divide between the two games.

Allowing Classic players to move their characters to retail would invalidate real, actual Vanilla.

I can’t say it won’t happen, because money, it might, eventually.

But it would automatically invalidate everything that was obtained back then, because you could just get those things and transfer over to retail with them, and in retail you can’t get them anymore.

Stuff like Corrupted Ashbringer, ZG tigers, Naxx gear would not be nearly as valuable anymore.

It’d piss out actual vets, but who cares if no one is left playing. So, when the population gets low, I believe they’ll do this.

Right now, Naxx gear and ZG tiger from BMAH is a gold sink, and people buy WoW tokens to get those things. They’d lose money on those whales.

But, alternatively, they could make a lot of money off the Classic whales that want to transfer all of their characters.

I just don’t have faith in Blizzard to preserve things, tbh.

Wont ever happen, classic toons will always be stuff to classic

We also thought WoWtoken would be kept out of Classic, but that was overturned.

I think when there’s no more money to be made off anything else, they’ll capitulate.

There has been no announcement about transferring characters. Up to this point, they’ve kept Classic and Retail completely separate.

This is me.

Thanks for the inputs! I’m holding out hope but even if they don’t I can always change my Worgan back to Human and “pretend”…
