I’m not sure what point you’re trying to make. If you don’t like Cata then don’t play it. Cata was my favourite expansion. I played off and on since 2.4 and wow never fully clicked for me until Cata launched. I finally got to max level a day before it hit. Those years were awesome for me. MoP as well. MoD was heartbreakingly bad…lol If RDF and raid finder are not in cata classic it’s going to be so tedious I’m just not going to bother with it.
Purchasing a Blizzard certified boost is faster anyway.
I would never consider playing CATA without it. No a f;ing chance
Well let’s see. It is currently 3:31 am, I have the next hour free to play. I have a 5k GS and can not find any groups right now. Yes I am unable to play the game that everybody else supposedly is.
Yes. Some of us certainly do. How many are left, I don’t know. But once upon a time when all of this content was current we made up the majority of the progression raiding community, as well as the majority of those who really just appreciated the community at large that the game had and cared enough to post on the forums. Blizz didn’t listen to our very well articulated and lengthy concerns at the time (hundreds of posts dwarfing this one were written against the RDF on the old D&R forums, which Blizz has sadly since deleted), and most of us quit or went ‘casual’ between the ICC nerfs and mid Cata as a result. Occasionally checking back in to see if Blizz would ever fix their game, but sadly pretty much always disappointed. WoD was the last chance most of us gave Blizz (the marketing was great, but Blizz didn’t deliver the desired goods).
Did we quit only because of the RDF? No… but it did play a role. As others wrote at length once upon a time when it was introduced, some in the years since (notably leading up to Classic Vanilla’s launch) it’s probably at the top of the list of things that damaged WoW at some very fundamental levels. Levels that are completely escaping most if not all of those who are posting in favor of it.
The game is better without it. The community is better without it. A lot of folks aren’t truly immersed in the community these days, so they don’t even know what they are missing.
All that said. I fully expect Blizz to implement the RDF for Cata. I would be beyond pleasantly surprised if they didn’t. They cater to the FotM, nerf wanting, easymode desiring crowd for the most part these days (and have since WotLK original, with few exceptions)… so worry not. You’ll more than likely get your RDF, and a lot less people playing the game in the not so long run as a result. But… they might have already left for Vanilla or the unspeakable servers.
OK. I’m not sure if hopping on at 3:31am, while having an hour of free time to play is a great example of what everyone else is supposedly able to do.
Anyway, I was asking you the questions I was, because I was trying to get a better understanding of the type of playstyle people who are asking for RDF actually have.
Hope you have a good night
I can’t speak for everyone, just myself. I know what RDF would add to my game experience. Maybe eventually, either that or I give up the nostalgia and put the game away again. It will be what it will. Good night to you as well.
When there were 12 million subs, there may have been less need for RDF, in yester-year. But, this community (as a whole) blows and there has been a need for RDF, since the beginning of franken-wrath.
bro what community? the only time anyone ever says something positive about their communities its from some niche RP perspective from Grobb, and RDF wouldn’t destroy that.
No. Its not a better game when ppl are not even doing the majority of what you claim. Getting on a flight path and afking does not add anything at all to the experience of the dungeon run. You can talk until you are blue in the face but you would still be wrong. What does add to the experience of the dungeon run itself is THE ACTUAL DUNGEON RUN. Thats it. The other stuff is nothing. And here is the biggest part that you lost causes fail to comprehend. The FACT that without RDF, there are close to Zero dumgein runs happening in MANY of the lower level dungeons. There is no argument you could ever come up with that would justify people not bothering to play the content. When ppl refuse to do something because it is not worthwhile to them, that is idiotic game logic. Yet you support it. Whos the lost cause? I have already stated that rdf does indeed take away a small amount of immersion. But the benifits of it far outweigh that. And it is not opinion. Playing the game and having fun is not comparible to not having time and logging off.
I agree
Nah they actually increased the difficulty for current WOTLK raids. Yeah they put in a lot of catch up mechanisms, but they’re catering to both sides. They’ve made the harder stuff harder for those who want or are willing to meet the challenge and have normal and catch-up stuff for those who don’t want or are unable to meet the challenge of hard modes.
The only group of people who aren’t catered to are people progging. If you’re 1 or 2 achievements away from Glory of the Raider 25’s, it’s going to require a lot of effort and hand shakes to finish them up. Not sure how Blizzard would be able to work that in but it is what it is.
What if an entire group of people talk until they’re blue in the face and still be wrong?
People wouldn’t level as much in the open world which is one of the criticisms given in WOTLK is a dead old Azeroth. People already choose to spam Alterac Valley for exp because it is most efficient. Content isn’t going to be played either way, it’s just whether it’s dungeons or world levelling.
There’s no real social experience through levelling in MMOs that have a random dungeon finder or in which a dungeon finder is used. If you want to actual do or see the content, you won’t as you’ll have people on alts just barreling through the place for gear or exp. You can play through an MMO without doing a single dungeon once if you’re enjoying the levelling experience.
Once you’re at max level, you can run dungeons but you can also do honor runs for gear to do raiding. You will also be required to join guilds where people can run you through stuff and network with others if your guild doesn’t have enough guys to do a 25. I’ve run lowbies through low level dungeons, or on elite quests in the same manner you would experience in an RDF of just me running around smashing stuff while they trail behind grabbing drops and coins.
If anyone wants a serious discussion on RDF they should look at games outside of WOW and compare their experience to WOW Classic. Most people will always choose the solo option of doing things if it available to them, and when a game’s systems lean into that it’s no longer an MMORPG and becomes a solo game with other people around you. I don’t really care personally as I have outlevelled, out geared and out networked the need for RDF, however let’s not pretend that adopting certain systems will not change the nature of the game.
At some point people in this community need to accept they have essentially beaten the game. If I am re-visting Ocarina of Time and am trying to download mods to skip child Link’s section to “get to the good part” it probably means I’ve played the game too much and should play something else as the experience is no longer as fresh and enjoying as it used to be.
I would be okay with it if they make the heroics pre nerf. One shots all around.
We’ll probably get cata with lfr but no rdf, and it would make sense to me in a weird way if Blizzard did this, just because it wouldn’t make sense…. If that makes sense…
True, imagine having to swim all the way down to the under water dungeons or have to walk from Uldum all the way to death mine to do a heroic dungeon.
Sure you could be port there but TWO people has to walk there first to teleport the others, already its quite horrible WOTLK sometime sitting for 5+ mins on a griffon imagine taking 10+ mins to get to the dungeon.
What about those who did not quest in Vashj’ir? How they get to the dungeon without being teleported? Blizzard will add NPC to port you there from the surface? Doubt it.
Just thinking about it make me want to not even bother with the expansion at all if there is no RDF minimum, I do not care about LFR I just want RDF.
Oh yea can we just do Cata but remove Vashjir. I’m just asking for a friend.
I thought vashjir was interesting. It was pretty and fun to quest in a 3 dimensional zone.
I misread you post and thought you were against RDF.
Was original the first time. But after doing it I’m never going back. Just very unpractical questlines and terrible combat as much as you might like “3d dimensional” with aoe not snapping right (they fixed that in retail later on so maybe this won’t be the case).
I’m one of the few that like vash. So many people cried about how hard it was to control your character but it’s the same as flying.
I like Vashj too but it IS quite annoying in some spots…lol
