This is like if people asked a biologist, what is the function of the Mitochondria?
Then the biologist links NATURALNEWS. com HOMEOPATHYTODAY .net instead of picking up a biology textbook and then saying, “well I was asked for the evidence so I gave some links!”
Just because you post links doesn’t mean they’re reliable.
I’ll concede though that the premise of the argument from both you and the person you’re discussing this with is absurd. Who actually cares if Classic is better than Retail? Just enjoy the game. The nature of the discussion being incredibly subjective means that the only way to argue this through isn’t with facts but with feelings.
My luscious lemon, may I recommend that you take full perspective of what was said before merely resorting to mockery? You will have noted, I am sure, that I made it very clear that this Tribal mindset works both ways, and that my point towards the pro-Classic tribe was merely being used as an example of such within this very thread.
Some advice if I may, love? A wise woman once told me some words that I now pass on to you in the hopes they enrich your life as much as they have mine.
“The Ignorant rely on deflection, victimization, and mockery to assert their righteousness; whereas the Intelligent rely on open discourse, welcome counter opinions, and only work to support others views even if they themselves do not agree with them.”
Again please point out these famous institutions of gaming analysis I can source then.
Your sitting here calling me dumb because I did exactly what someone asked me to do, which is provide a source for my opinion.
No duh if I was submitting a comprehensive gaming culture analysis at Harvard I’m not going to use friggin Google. But this is the wow forums and we are talking about a video game.
Can someone clarify please. It says beta invite for classic are going out tomorrow, and they posted stress test schedule on different dates. Stress Test 1: Wed May 22–Thurs May 23 Stress Test 2: Wed Jun 19– Thurs Jun 20 Stress Test 3: Thurs Jul 18– Fri July 19
Are people going to play this game tomorrow, or just during those stress test times?
The gameplay elements of needing to visit vendors, class trainers, reagents for spells, less instant travel options etc… all serve to make the world feel bigger, and more alive. It also creates a situation where you “gear up” in town before heading out. Making sure you’ve got potions and food, maybe flasks. It makes you feel like an adventurer, especially when the preparation is rewarded. Having that potion or not could be the difference in you succeeding or failing when you accidentally pull an extra mob or two.
And when you arrive at a new town, it probably took a good chunk of time to get there, especially if you had to hoof it at a low level. It feels like an epic journey.
It depends on if you like to imagine your character’s more unique story, or prefer more of a prepackaged story. Neither is inherently “more” RP-like. But they are different approaches. I don’t like prepackaged character development unless it’s in a singleplayer RPG game.
In general Classic provides a mostly neutral canvas to imagine what type of character you are. And that is some of why it feels much more like an RPG than today’s game.
I’m aware of that. You’re pointing out that people engage in confirmation bias and are subject to cognitive dissonance, but you pointing it out is not exactly a big brained analysis of anything since you literally engage in the same confirmation bias shortly after. I’m just pointing out a contradiction.
This is actually is an extremely interesting discussion and I’d like to prove you wrong on this one, but this never works in reality. I’d have to talk about things that go waaaaaay off the rails in this topic, but I see where you’re coming from in this. It makes sense, but never works in reality.
Alpha is an earlier testing period than Beta. Beta is typically a “close to launch” version. Alpha will have more bugs than Beta. The entire point of people on Alpha/Beta should be testing the content. Often they give people incentives to do particular things, flat out say “hey guys, try to focus on X stuff”, or just limit what you can do.
Toons can be reset at any time, based on what they want to test. They may have a phase where they only want people testing quests lvls 1-10, for example. So toons may or may not be reset for Beta specifically, since they can already be reset whenever.
There are none. Every gaming website is subjective.
Even with like 10000000 analyses of something like Classic vs. Retail in academic papers (which would be very memeworthy) it’ll get the discussion nowhere. The nature of the argument itself is subjective. Nobody cares if you think is one better than the other, the “sources” you provide are by people with opinions not facts.
I’m not the one who spent time to look for articles to prove a subjective point.
Oh? I admit that I do not see where this contradiction is coming from, love. I would be remiss with myself if I did not ask for clarification on the issue. One cannot learn from past mistakes if they do not understand them, let alone know that they exist.
So please, enlighten me. I eagerly await with rapt anticipation.
Here I must disagree with you quite wholesale, love. if I myself strive to always be open, respectful of the opinions of others, and only work in the interest of both parties, than this mindset has succeeded. An Eastern Philosopher named Lao Tzu once said;
“Treat those who are good with goodness, and also treat those who are not good with goodness. Thus goodness is attained. Be honest to those who are honest, and be also honest to those who are not honest. Thus honesty is attained.”
You pointed out before that people like to “other” one another into groups. Naturally humans do this because we’re limited by cognitive biases. However, in the next post you say that there is a trend of pro-Classic players who do nothing but engage in self-victimization.
This is a contradiction, you’re “othering” people into what you think the other “tribe” thinks or does based on a lack of data and immediate observation.
I wish this was true, but if you look at current events, it’s not. We’ll just have to outright disagree. No ill-will from me to you.
I’m also excited to see the flood of forum posts begging players to go play on the classic servers. Once those remaining there realize there aren’t enough players on a single faction to form a ZG group, let alone a group for MC or Ony.
