Classic: best gathering profession for (1-60) dungeon grind group

Hello,

First post ever on a Blizzard forum.

I am a first timer to Classic WoW, having played only WotLK through Cata and a little bit in MoP. I’ve searched the internet and YouTube for an answer to this question, but I can’t seem to find it anywhere:

My irl friend group plans on doing a considerable amount of leveling through means of dungeon grinding on our journey to level 60.

One of us is set to take alchemy and herbalism, one is doing tailoring + gathering, I’ll be doing enchanting + gathering, and the other two in the group may pick up engineering/blacksmithing/leatherworking + a gathering profession.

I’m looking for a suggestion for a gathering profession to use during this dungeon grind to help make a little gold along the way. Or maybe it’s not viable to try and level professions in a dungeon grind group? Are there certain dungeons to run repeatedly because there are lots of beasts to be skinned, or a dungeon that is rich in mining veins, or herbs?

I’m somewhat aware that higher level dungeons like BRD have plenty of opportunity for mining, but I’m looking for examples throughout the entire leveling experience that can help to keep our professions up to par with our toons’ levels, while also making some gold in the meantime

See you out there!

If you’re leveling in dungeons you won’t be able to level any professions except maybe skinning and even then I think it will eventually fall behind. The good news is that first aid will be really really easy to keep up with.

Tbh I always tell myself “I’m going to level my herbalism/mining/skinning/etc” and then it always ends up falling behind and becomes kind of a waste of time to level. It’s generally more efficient from /played perspective to hit 60 then level your professions after. Edit, I’ve played on a few private servers, in case you’re wondering about the “always” frame of reference

Someone should also get Skinning. Tailors use leather for shoes and other things (not a lot, but some), and it’s the easiest one to level up.

If you ever do Stranglethorn or Un’goro, your skinner will be all “Wait, I can’t keep up”!

It depends on if you want to satisfy a short term goal or long term goal.

A short term goal might be wealthy at level 40 to be able to get and buy that level 40 mount fast. Professions that makes armors/weapons would be good for this. I find Alchemy and Enchanting bad for this as nobody buys potions/flasks at from level 1 to 40… even enchants. Enchanter has the lowest gold income of all on leveling as all the greens you see would be disenchanted.

A long term goal might be wealthy at max level. This is when potions/flasks would be hot in AH. Also, all the glowing enchants would be needed at max level for raiding. Alchemists and Enchanters would be rich at max level.

If you have time, I recommend you to have Making Armor professions on leveling. When you get the level 60 mount, reset your profession to Alchemy or Enchanting.

Herbalism for those swiftness pots and tea. Then enchanting to be disenchanting.
