Classic Armory

Should an armory to view characters on Classic be a thing? Discuss.
Nah.

Everything was done ingame, lets leave it that way imo.
I think absolutely not. Anything that promotes min maxing without internal motivation being a factor is probably bad. Also removes player interaction, instead of going to IF bridge to be checked before raid, the RL just checks armory, doesn't even get to see you in person.
It's all intertwined. We seem to be sticking with this WoW website and forum instead of a Classic website and forum.
Character portraits in the forums should go back to the way they were in vanilla - tho I always did like the tbc level 70 versions more. If armory exists it should show your gear, not your talents.
I'd be fine with it.
Still hoping for a separate Classic website with a look more closely resembling the original.
If blizzard doesn't do it a third party host will kind of like with private servers. Blizzard will do it themselves I am 100% sure. I don't care much tho.
People are going to upload their stats to wowhead regardless so they mind as well do it.
If there is absolutely no way that any other person or entity in the universe can gain access to an Armoury profile — other than the person that owns the account — then I don't have a problem with it.

However, if profiles can be accessed by anyone else, under any circumstance, then it will just be a matter of time before we have GearScore and "link achieve for invite". That bullsh!t must not be allowed to happen.

Armory was already a thing in vanilla but it wasn't until Wrath that gearscore and achievement linking became a thing, so we'll be fine.

According to Archive.org, Armory came out in 2007 which is The Burning Crusade.

So no Armory for classic.
I vote no, as it was in OG vanilla...

You want to see what gear someone is wearing? Inspect them in game.

Looking to know their progression level? See above. Their gear will tell you much of the story. Beyond that, your reputation mattered and if things are actually tuned like they where in vanilla, you will know the people who are progressed vs those that aren't because you know their guild/group by reputation or them either personally or secondhand.

You want to see their talent choices? Start paying their subscription fee. In many cases this can also be done via actually talking to them... for example for a shaman "Drop a Mana Tide totem" kind of proves they're resto spec and can be easily checked before a raid... Beyond that, I prefferred the old method for admittedly selfish reasons. There where days when I would raid as PvP specs (particularly on farm content) with little to no issue, but it would have been a rather large deal had it been viewable in or out of game. Also hybrids need every advantage they can get, and if one of them is able to sneak into a raid as a "heals" despite being Ele/Enhance/Ret in actuality.... but still do their job competently enough to not be an issue then all the power to them.... I did that in TBC as a "Holy" Paladin myself, for a bit (actually ret just was in a full dungeon healer set)
I'm hoping a programmer somehow includes Raider.io in classic. We need some way to keep scrubs out of our dungeons. Lessons ain't free.
