Well I am seeing alot of guides and people talking about “get this addon” or “this addon is a must” for classic. But the one thing they are overlooking is Classic wow is a completely different and modern client then vanilla wow was. So most vanilla addons will not work, they are going to take time to ether update them to classic wow or build new ones as the authors no long play wow.
Well, the core is Legion’s final and, with some few exceptions, the majority of add-ons for that have been updated for BfA, indicating that their authors are still active.
Now, will they play Classic and drop Retail, or not touch Classic and devote all their development time to Classic? That is up to the individuals. Hope your favorite add-on author is going to cover your desires.
If there is demand for a addon it will be remade, or another addon that does the same thing will be made.
There will probably be a beta, once that is live the addon writers will have a field day fixing/pumping out classic addons for the rest of us.
Them not playing classic doesn’t mean they won’t be nice and downgrade their addons for classic players. Even if they don’t there will be classic addon devs that will do it for em. The worst case is there will be clones of them. I’d be surprised if the most popular addons weren’t available on day 1.
Not that it would be a bad thing. Most of the popular addons won’t be all that useful on day 1 outside of UI and gathering addons.
There will be a beta and addons will be updated and finalized during said beta.
Just like it has been for decades.

I disagree. You’re going to have UI sites like wowinterface with two separate sections. Modern and Classic WoW addons. There’s going to be UI addons, recount, omen (threat is an issue in vanilla), healing frames, whispercast (for trading water/asking for buffs), clique, damage meters, utility addons (for streamers - such as Details! Streamer windows), etc.
The reason we didn’t have those addons in the beginning was that WoW was relatively new. Now that we know what we know and what direction WoW will consist of, you’ll see a lot more addons.
