Classic after WOTLK

Personally, I would like the development team for Classic to explore a “plus” option in regards to content that was cut in development of the next expansion. Expanding the Azjol’nerub areas etc that should have had more expansive content that was left out. What are your guys’ thoughts?

To see classic areas and bgs that were developed and tested in alpha/beta but never added at launch, such as the bg Azshara Crater & the Emerald Dream zone would be nice. To also explore the original idea of classes that instead of talents they would level up and do some sort of quest requirements to change into a certain “hero class.” Each race/class had a different combo for heros. One such design was for some dwarfs warriors, which allowed them to become “mountain kings”, night elf warriors were planned to become “demon hunters” and tauren warriors were planned to be “chieftains” for example, if one so chose.

I think putting more focus on seasons of mastery is the way to go

What people want: Classic+ highly improved vanilla with additional content on top of what we already have.

What they will do: Cataclysm without LFR, LFD and 10 man raids.

Hopefully classic after WOTLK entails them skipping Cata and then releasing S4 classic MoP so everyone who plays warrior can reminisce the best times of our WoW careers.

This already exists. It’s called retail, or shadowlands if you prefer. You’re already on it as well, foxman.

I would be down for classic fresh with a few changes. That or MOP

It would be cool but I just don’t see much new development happening for classic. I think they released classic because they saw there was some demand for it and it was relatively easier to do. New content for classic is a completely different beast altogether.

They’ll never do it, they’ll just keep doing henious 12m servers with changes nobody cares about

They need to clarify -right now- whether or not Cataclysm is the goal.

Ion mentioning it made me feel ill. I loved Cata, don’t get me wrong-

But I’ve been looking for a forever home in Classic because of the pre-Cata World. All of the quest content, dungeons etc that are not accessible in Cataclysm, I don’t want to miss out on those, as we haven’t seen them since 2009

If they bring “Cata Classic”, everyone is just going to migrate from Wrath, even if they left it open unlike TBC.

Then, they really will have killed the “Classic Experience”.

I suggest that for people who want to play Cata ‘classic’, that they should bring Season of Mastery through TBC, Wrath and then put it into Cataclysm.

BUT LEAVE -ACTUAL- CLASSIC IN WRATH. PLEASE. I’ve been slow and steady enjoying my way to 60 on my first character still (38) and I’d like to know I can stop at 80 and start farming armor/‘mog’.

I’m two server transfers into this character (one two weeks back) and I have to say, hearing Ion talk about Cata just made me lose a lot of motivation to keep leveling.

Why should I bother chasing the enjoyment of Wrath when as far as I know, it will be GONE in a short 2 years from now?

Blizzard is underestimating how much money I’d continue to give them to be able to play Wrath forever, and I surely can’t be the only one.

I’d be down for s02 SoM to have a class balance/change. I cant speak about other classes coz i dont know them but paladin i know and have played: adding perhaps crusader strike as spell u buy at 60 for rets and taunt for protadins would be an example. Im sure druids, shamans could use some similar love

Classic Plus would be so cool

One can only dream! I also wish they would add more content to it while keeping the original talent tree styles and the feel to it. Azeroth still has so much room and abandoned projects we would love to see.

Yes pleeeeease add new content and keep the system. Love it!

A review of the facts:

  • Era servers suggest that nobody is interested in realms lacking progression.
  • Sentiment on these boards suggests that most do not want to progress to Cata
  • Cycling through Vanilla → TBC → WotLK sounds appealing, but will probably fall flat. You can only revisit content so many times and so frequently. The SoM servers suggest this.
  • Classic+ is risky in that it may well flop, and will be expensive to develop. However, if it does work, it could continue or even expand the lucrative Classic world for many years to come.

None of these options are safe and satisfying like TBC and WotLK were. However, of them, only Classic+ offers real legs and upside. Cycling Vanilla → WotLK would be less profitable, but it would be essentially free for Blizzard. The only real cost is splitting the player base.

Classic + is fine,

They really don’t need to get caught up in developing content that was left out or unfinished. That’s a narrow frame work and really would diminish the quality of what they were able to produce.

First we have to define what classic + is. I’ll go over some features that are essential to classic+

Not Optional, must be included:

  1. Rated BG’s and Arena.
  2. Regular releases of new raids with new items. 4-8 month time table.
  3. Reworks/Class balancing for underutilized specs. This works best with new raid being released because they can have a better idea of how to implement and balance classes around new content.
  4. Periodically release new small dungeons with questing zones.
  5. Faster removal of bots.

Optional changes or changes that could come on a slower time line and wouldn’t need to be available on release:

  1. Consider having flex raids for new raid content.
  2. Consider having mythic raids for new raid content.
  3. Rework Professions/Auction House.
  4. Add in playing housing.
  5. General balancing and mechanic changes. Such as removal of world buffs from raids.
  6. Some quality of life features like summoning stones, retail LFG and so forth. (don’t forget how classic turned into multiboxing city for warlock summoners)
  7. Removal of terrain exploits and unintended play in dungeons farming.
  8. Transmog

Changes that should never be in classic+
8. Updated Character models.
9. LFR
10. Complex systems that alter the style of game or introduce features that significantly alter the the game through borrowed power.

The next question is how to monetize. It’s not as obvious as it seems, but the best way is actually not monthly subscriptions anymore.

Make the game F2P, with a battle pass system that comes out with every new raid release that offers special cosmetic rewards. mounts, enchant effects, and transmoggable armor. This will keep the game populated and blizzard will make a ton of money from it. Possibly include special items for player housing if player housing is ever implemented.

Will this happen? Probably not. Blizzard is far too conservative with their approach for marketing the game.
