Yea well I can raid buff enemies into melee range
Everything I play feels unique to itself. Even a Demonology Warlock plays nothing like an Affliction warlock.
A Paladin doesn’t play like a Warrior.
A Mage doesn’t play like a Priest.
A shaman doesn’t play like anything else entirely.
I’m going to focus on the core of your message, namely the thread name.
One of the things the game does well is that every class does feel unique. I love Warriors because they’re all mobile and in your face, while Paladins are more like plodding juggernauts hurling Light hammers and overwhelming foes in righteous fury.
Even each of the different specs has a unique flavor and style to them, in addition to a playstyle. Some may have similar resources and mechanics, but you still don’t play them the same way, or if you do they still have their own nuances.
That flavor may not be great for all race/class combos (Read: Gob hunter either having to invoke THE MIGHT OF ELOON or do a sick Sylvanas cosplay, neither fits) but really, classes feeling unique is one of the things WoW does best.
If you wan’t unique, play a Rogue.
I’m not sure. I feel like survival feels pretty unique with its play style. If you look at it broadly with the brush of “dps classes are builder spenders” then yes most are the same. There is nuance between classes/specs though that give each one some uniqueness.
I’m going to disagree with the topic of this thread. I play mainly DPS and dabble in healing.
So lets look at Healign though, smaller pool to describe.
Holy Priests are all about getting decent sized heals and stacking instant heals like Prayer of mending and renew. They crit, often and big, but their power comes in using one heal to proc another so they can chain insta cast heals or quick cast them.
Disc is about stopping damage and healing damage by damaging enemies. No other spec out there does it like they do. Shields, bubbles, penance, atonement.
Resto shaman, Chain healing and totems along with quick cast for a hot and big single heal. Not to mention all the utility they bring. Life link totem anyone?
Resto druid. They Hot you up. Not the big insta heal all the time, instead they ramp. The more hots on you the more each hot heals for.
Holy Paly. Good heals, a few insta casts. They are slower on teh casts generally, atleast without building decent haste, but they go big. With beacon, especially double beacon, they heal 3 people at once for a single cast of a rather slow but large heal. Not to say they dont have some big quick or insta cast heals.
What it comes down to is this. Do they all heal? yes. But it is in how they heal that is the flavor. I prefer a priest, normally holy. But disc is fun too. They are different in how they heal, how they go abotu setting up that moment to make everyone in teh group go ‘WOW’. If all your seeing is its healing, or it’s damage, or its a tank, you are looking at generalization. yes, the role gives yo a basic idea of what they do, but not how they do. That is the uniqueness.
