Class Tuning

Friday has arrived again, and we were eagerly awaiting some changes to Killing Spree from Blizzard, some buff to Fatebound so we wouldn’t use Trickster. Once again, Blizzard and the Rogue developer intern gave us our gift: a buff for most classes, but not for rogues.

In this sense I understand it as a bad joke for us…

I truly salute the Rogue players and share your confusion on why Rogues continue on the ignore list.

We have a single dev that we are aware of that actually does work on the class. Any time this dev has taken a vacation or not been present, the class has gone entirely ignored. This dev also has a tendency to ban people off of the class discord for criticizing anything he does as he has mod status there.

Put shortly, to do any actual work that the players want that he personally doesn’t is tantamount to screaming at a wall. He was a rogue who won his Glad title with a one-shot macro on Sin over a decade ago and fundamentally doesn’t understand the functionality of the specs. (has gone on record asking the discord why things function how they do, like most recently asking why haste soft caps were different between HO and KiR builds when he’s the reason it is like that this xpac.)

So, we have someone running the class design that doesn’t understand it, doesn’t really play it as far as we’re aware, and only listens to the echo chamber he designs for himself. And there isn’t enough players of the class to generate enough noise to hit someone higher up to actually get him to do something for more than 5 minutes of tuning at this point.

How did that happen lol?

I am not against the “Rogue” dev but more open communication is needed. Discord is not cutting it.

It’s interesting. I started reading the comments from our intern developer, and it’s surprising. I won’t say anything else.

I hope another developer sees our messages and takes pity on us.

If the current Rogue dev is designing Rogues around openers then that is where you direct feedback for improvement.

Pity???

Pity implies the dev was not the main contributor. The correct feeling is shame.

Your guess is as good as mine. Might have a friend who helped set up the Disc, or maybe the people running the server are just huge fans of him. Even the worst people out there have their set of fan boys.

I’ve simply watched the bans hit multiple times in the two short stints of reading the comments in the disc. After watching them constantly pad his ego, I got sick of it and left. I’d rather have zero resources and have to figure out everything on my own than only have one resource that sits there padding the ego of a developer in fear of a ban.

I honestly don’t want to be as frustrated at one person as I am, but he’s created this irritation by entirely ignoring the class and refusing to communicate/sounding entirely ignorant when he does say anything. He could fix this in a week by actually learning the interactions and doing his job, but after 4+ years of him not doing so, I have zero hope that he’s going to try now.

He also won’t speak anywhere that risks him being criticized, so you won’t see him speak anywhere but that Discord because he can control the narrative and silence people there. It’s sad to watch but the dude has paper thin skin.

People think I’m exaggerating until they go check for themselves. It’s genuinely depressing that someone who barely scraped through high school can understand the numbers better than someone that has worked on multiple Blizzard titles that require heavy knowledge in numbers to tune properly.

Best I’ve got is some experience tuning stats for DoS2 modding and class design for my mods, and I was naturally good at math in school. Someone supposedly experienced as much as him should blow me out of the water, he should be looking at these numbers daily if he’s getting paid. It’s pathetic that he doesn’t seem to.

It’s mind boggling that they’d throw this guy onto Rogue without any oversight, and question the amount of work he’s (not) doing zero times when the PVE patch notes for Rogue as a whole, all 3 specs, coming into 11.1.0 were literally 2 lines for just Outlaw. Every other class had 5 times that or more, some of them being 10+ lines per spec. It’s unacceptable how little has been done for Rogues since S4 of DF. It’s been over a year, and every other class has seen major overhauls. Slice and dice was not an acceptable reply. It was a grain of sand on a beach of work that needs done right now.

This is a red flag for bad news if I’ve ever seen it. Nothing good or creative ever comes from the glorified calculators in the class Discords except; ‘your talents are bad, you must choose the optimal talents. Beep. Boop. I’m on a leaderboard.’.

No wonder there’s only one build for Outlaw that suspiciously plays like Sub and only receives nerfs because one player awkwardly gets God’s window and makes the spec look amazing for like two minutes.

On a side note of this shocking revelation - At this point, any blizzard’s employee that are working on a balancing certain class and are active only on some random community discord, rather than on official Blizzard forum should be instantly fired from his work.

Mind you, a reflexive, next day nerf because he fundamentally DOES NOT UNDERSTAND how the numerical interactions of the class he manages work together. It’s all just WCL and general parse data that he’s assuming makes the design function as is, and just thinks that the top DPS performance in those logs is entirely skill based.

I don’t know how to break the news to him, but the difference in 100% uptime and 45% uptime on Broadsides alone is a huge impact. It’s 2-3 times as many Crackshot windows, and reset variance on Crackshot is a huge damage differential as well, and it means ADR will be up consistently vs falling off for 15+ seconds.

The majority of our kit is stacked into a single button for our damage, and is entirely non-functional outside of Adrenaline Rush’s uptime. It does not feel good that our kit hits like a limp noodle outside of BtE right now, not with as many layers of variance go into making that button do-or-not-do damage at any given moment. Nor does it feel good to lose all of our rotational momentum solely on 20 failed rolls of RNG dice in a row.

Who is ‘the’ rogue dev? Where can I see their discord input?

Realz, just join the Ravenholdt discord and search by his account posts. You’ll run into stuff that he’s said that’s eyebrow raising if you dig.

This man has only posted facts.

The Rogue discord has never been a welcoming place. They have a clique and if you speak out against them, you get banned. It used to be much more toxic on top of that but it seems the dev only started talking more because they addressed that toxicity. Now its just 10 or so guys giving input partly based on what theorycrafters think.

most class discords are pretty unpleasant but the rogue one really stands out.

Considering i was banned from the DH discord for actions that had nothing to do with the DH discord and still hate the Rogue one more, this tracks.

We have a dev? I thought they were gone.

Might as well be with the absolute nonexistence of work being done for the class in the last 12 months.
