Other tanks already did decent damage. Before the Prot Pally rework people were praising Prot Warrior and to some extent Guardian Druid.
Paladins just showed up overtuned and took over.
So no, you knock down the overtuned one. It’s literally standard practice. Again, following the mantra of only buffing to meet at the top is a cycle that does not end. You just tune until content becomes easier than intended over time if you do that.
Aiming for the middle is what EVERYONE does. This is not Blizzard specific behavior, and for good reason.
This is true, 95% representation week after week in the top 2000 keys. But I’m not sure anyone is denying that BrM needs help in keys and that Blizzard has ignored the spec largely since its introduction.
Exactly, which is why I think nerfing the current meta tanks does little to address these alarming problems.
Why is the priority here to nerf? Could we please worry about buffing for once? I honestly DGAF that Prot Pallies are the meta champ rn, it is what it is. The magntiude of the changes is still gonna do absolutely f all to the fact that people with their +12 keys are just gonna wait it out for a Pally instead of a Monk when it comes to pushing their key.
I see them nerfing Prot Paladin damage. I don’t think these nerfs will change much TBH.
But at 95% representation in high keys, and pretty exclusive at the top 3 levels or so. I do remember when they introduced Augmentation it elevated key performance by maybe 2 levels at high end play. Later nerfing them caused everyone to realize that no one could push keys and they had to follow up by nerfing all content. Lessons not learned perhaps.
Same approach by Blizzard. They never, ever tried meaningfully buffing any tanks to challenge them. Just prune them around the edges and never actually end up making sizeable nerfs that shakes up the meta.
Because it can’t be done that way. You NEED to give the blatantly underperforming tanks substantial buffs to make things interesting.
keep ignoring your player base blizz I’m sure it will work out LOL Still no bug fix for Demonsurge and Focused hatred, and still THE USER INTERFACE IS BUGGED!!!
So the last time brewmaster was seen as a good tank for M+ was BFA S3 and it wasn’t even as good as some of the other tanks have been since then.
Thats a nice thought but they are not even attempting to change the underperforming tanks. If they buffed Brewmaster damage 20% I would bet money it still wouldn’t be close to meta.
I would count anything above 16% representation as good.
So maybe shadowlands but that might have been more due to an item than the class being good if I understand correctly, didn’t play SL.
But it’s still a LONG time ago that it yes, is a meme at this point. I don’t enjoy the other classes really so, different game.
Like Shamans if they say removed Mystic Touch and gave us a critical strike buff it might. Or if they made us the only lust tank.
Brew doesn’t have any utility to it at all. Mystic Touch doesn’t do anything if there’s no physical DPS representation, and chaos brand is frankly a better choice for melee which do magical damage.
Blizzard will read this and decide to buff Beast Master hunters ><.
Maybe say BrM or just say Brewmaster so Blizzard can pull up the WoW codex and discover that a 6th tank exists.
SO i guess disc, feral druids 100-0’ing you with their bleeds and hunters just gonna keep wrecking in PvP, cool. Cant wait to keep enjoying a druid ignoring my defensive’s while just jumping around me as i slowly die and he goes to bear form for s***s and giggles.
Honestly no idea. I don’t PvE these days. BM is pretty oppressive currently. With no movement penalty, tons of damage, and being one of the harder specs to kill, they are just way over tuned. They could nerf their overall damage by 10-15% and they would still be good.
What they should’ve done was bring the other tanks up to prot paladin’s level. Maybe we’d actually have some people playing them if they were allowed to, you know, actually have fun. But nope, can’t have that. Gotta nerf the one tank actually working right.
To be clear - every tank works perfectly fine on a mechanical level.
The meta is just determined by which ones are tuned higher.
If your version of “fun” is just being stronger than the devs intended for the content, then probably don’t bother talking about balance.
Or, maybe just don’t play tanks if you don’t have fun with them unless you’re an unkillable demigod that does more DPS than DPS. I know some of you are like that and would love to go back to the days of Vengeance.
“There’s a tank shortage” isn’t a good excuse for poor balance.
There’s always a tank shortage.
No, my version of “fun” is not being forced to rely on constant babysitting by a healer, not hitting like a wet noodle (but still lower damage than the DPS), and having a gameplay loop that is as engaging as it is rewarding.
Unkillable tanks is a problem. Tanks that can’t sustain themselves is equally a problem, at least if you want people to actually play them.
Do you actually understand what happened with that key being timed without a healer? Everyone in there had healing, both group and self. They were splitting the healing duties amongst themselves to compensate for the lack of healer. And even at that, those were all very skilled players. This wasn’t a case of prot paladin being able to survive completely unaided, and a group operating at anything less than optimal efficiency wouldn’t have gotten away with it regardless.
