Class Tuning in Progress -- July 13 -- Updated

Hunter buffs

Awesome news!

BM is the easiest spec in the game, it shouldn’t ever be top tier at anything. Survival I will agree with though.

You’re also missing the point. There is a way to make abilities and buffs inactive or otherwise nerfed in PvP. BM hunter was already griefing people, they buffed it, and didn’t do anything to keep the buffs out of PvP.

They sort of nerfed kill command, but hardly any BM hunter’s use that anyway.

Yeah well, ya know that’s just like… uh… your opinion man.

This 100%.

Nerf Venthyr boomie - buff boomie’s base spec please.

So, here’s the answer:

If you make utility as important as dps, then that means you design encounters where the utility is IMPORTANT. This makes it so that the way the community always does things, that utility will be MANDATORY in the players’ view. This leads to a “bring the class, not the player” which they don’t want.

Now, you can avoid this by making the encounter forgiving enough that the utility is not mandatory, just a bonus. This however, goes against their 10+ year progressive move toward harder and harder content. They don’t seem to want to be the “casual MMO” anymore.

So, they progressively design raids to have less and less margin for error. This leads to the MANDATORY meta view the players have. We’re right back into bring the class, not the player, except, now the player is more important than if/when they designed around utility. You must be both on a top dps potential class, but, also be reasonably good at that class.

Is this the Blizzard “intentional” design? No, not really. They WANT the raid to be doable on all of the lowest potential classes/specs…eventually. They progressively nerf encounters over time to get there. However, they consistently start off a little too hard for that and tune down. Therefore, to anyone competitive about progress, they effectively DO make metas “mandatory”. They either ignore, or are ignorant to, just how competitive their player-base is. This shouldn’t be a surprise to them. They have consistently designed toward harder encounters, they provide more/better rewards for doing the hardest content in a time-limited race. They glorify those who achieve the hardest content the fastest, up to and including hiring those players (Ion, Lore, etc). They have TRAINED us to be this way, and/or made those who aren’t feel unwanted, and they leave.

So, while this may not be intentional design, it is the ultimately predictable effect of the design path they have chosen. Their desire to be as challenging as they can be means that ANY advantage will be seen as mandatory by the player-base. Now it’s just a case of pick your poison. Do you want mandatory dps or mandatory utility?

Watch them nerf venthyr but then buff kyrian boomies instead so you guys have to farm 80 renown next patch.

Valid points and I think you are more correct than not on many levels.

Expect it. Many classes will have to once again change covenants in 9.2. Oh and legendaries.

meanwhile demon hunters have a legit 2 button rotation and they are top tier

You know… I killed someone once with Convoke last week.
I would have thought there would be at least 100 people here complaining about it being too strong.

PVP Sliders. Problem solved. Next?

Nope… Dont bother…
