Class Trainers and Spell Ranks

How would you feel about bringing these back in a big way next expansion?

Instead of you learning abilities out in the world randomly (Which I think makes no sense by the way, how did everyone just happen to learn the exact same spells by themselves?), you had to go back and visit your class trainers again and learn them at a price?

Spell ranks could also come back and keep giving you new things to look forward to each level. Again, it just makes more sense that you have an instructor continuing to teach you how to master your class, rather than your spells just inherently getting stronger as you level, regardless of gear level.

No. I don’t want to have to go back to orgrimmar every 2 level because I need to learn -insert skill here rank x-

That was just a pain in the rear and a time waster, and we have enough of those in game as is.

Then how about making class trainers more abundant? Place them in nearly every town and city. You won’t need to go trek a large distance just to reach one.

NO.

If you want to try this system, classic awaits you. And even in classic, “underranking” was a thing. For like 1-2 spells. Most of spells it doesn’t matter that much. Adds too many buttons

But I would like to do a challenge quest for new spells !

What do you mean challenge quests for new spells? Could you elaborate for us? Sounds interesting.

Are you trolling ?
There is NONE time wasting in BfA. And it is one of the biggest problems.
• Flights every where. Honestlly, at this point flying mounts are only for resources gathering. Youi can go from point A to point B with a flight path
• Portals everywhere! You can cross 5 extensions in under 1 minutes
• You relive at the dungeon / raid entrance, not a graveyard
• All your CDs are reset when you wipe on a boss
• No special mechanics demanding some sort of specific gear (resistance gear)
• And even your gear adapts to chosen spec. Intel becomes strength. Right, super RP
• You don’t even need to consider if a loot IS an upgrade. Better ilvl ? equip. All stats are the same

They are being brought back. on classic servers.

we don’t need em here… Thanks!

Examples :

  • Warrior quest for berserker stance
  • Paladin quest for resurection
  • Paladin quest for lvl 60 mount

Having a quest line to learn how this spell work, who in the universe discovered it and do something to actually “earn” the right to use it. Account wide, if not people will complain about alts

I would be against it in the current game. It was a classic feature that was actually more annoying then rewarding. Now I would be totally in favor of having to visit a trainer to learn new skills but not upgraded versions.

I would like them to have some sort of purpose other than placeholders or whatever it is they are doing right now.

I don’t know if I would be crazy going back to the trainer every level though.

I personally loved this back in the day, but I don’t think the modern player base would like it very much. People have gotten too used to most things being quick and instant. People would rage I’m sure.

This is one of the many, many reasons I’m patiently waiting on Classic. Stress test tomorrow for two days! Can’t wait. I had a blast in the last two. It was by far the most fun I had in this game in many years.

A reasonable compromise. Also, they already do spell ranks, just not in the way vanilla did it. Like, Judgement rank 2 has it hitting another target, I think. They could probably do a bit more of that.

I still disagree. It was an annoying feature that really did nothing but waste your time and gold having to constantly upgrade your skills.

I’d rather see class quests be added for customization or titles if you want trainers to be relevant. Similar to the green fire quest or mount quests from the days of old.

Keep the rank nonsense in classic where it belongs.

This will fail spectacularly

I sure wouldn’t complain if they brought back the ranks at least.

Probably.
One of the reasons is the current system where every 6 month your “RPG” toon is fully reset. So I’ll guess people now just roll a new alt every “season” (God, I hate this world applied to MMORPG) so they want to be max level instantly with all perks and no work.

Yeah no, not just so that it was really annoying but, spending gold to be taught a spell and just all of a sudden knowing it to it’s best value was a terrible system. Makes no sense, of which learning them out and about does actually make sense, you’re gaining more power through learning to use that ability.

Naw. I’d rather my heals get stronger with gear, rather than getting to the point in vanilla where they have to start dropping codex books of new ranks because of how skewed things were.

I’d rather have more healing buttons to press that are different spells, rather than more healing buttons that are all just different ranks of two different spells.

Healing in Vanilla was PAINFULLY boring, and once you got the ranks you needed on the bar it wasn’t some math game with equations literally flying around you while you quickly figured out the best rank of the spell to cast. You just had like 2-3 ranks of a heal and cast that.

Some things from Classic should be adapted to the modern game. Spell ranks ain’t it, chief.

I’m pretty against this, too. Both returning to the trainer and having spell ranks.

I would like more class content, however. I still fondly remember being a Druid in Vanilla and going on cool quest lines to collect my forms. Swimming down to get the half of the Aquatic Form idol was exciting for me! I think the way Legion did artifact skins was a good step in the right direction, I had a lot of fun unlocking the hidden and Mage Tower skins. Something like this but for spell effects or something would be nice.

I just don’t want to see trainers come back in that way. It’s boring and annoying to go back and have to fork over gold to learn the new spells, especially since that would just be busy work now since gold lost its value.
