Hi all. I’m in need of a little input from the masses. While I can’t say for sure, I’m probably a lot older than most of you. I’m retired, have suffered two strokes, and have arthritis. The worst is probably the mental effect everything has had on me. My reaction time is slow, and trying to be aware of my health, resources, the enemies’ health, watching out for interruptible casts, and sometimes having to look at my keys to make sure I’m hitting the right button, things can overwhelm me quickly.
I’ve played hunters forever, and am growing tired of them. I need an alternative that gives me decent mobility, high damage output, and good damage mitigation, preferably one with a simple rotation. I have a gaming mouse with a few extra buttons, but honestly, with my diminished mental processing, it doesn’t do me much good. I can only handle so much at one time without my brain locking up.
I’ve tried warlock, paladins, demon hunter, rogue, and mage in recent times, but they don’t have the feel I am looking for. I am considering a fury warrior, but I’ve heard they have the most actions per minute, so I’m a little hesitant. Any suggestions?
BM hunter is literally your only choice. Any melee is out of the question and most casters require a good bit of foresight and planning.
The real question is what level of content are you expecting to do? You don’t need “high output, mobility, self-sustain, mitigation, and an easy rotation” to go kill LFR and be a world quest champion. Even still, BM hunter has all that.
It may be that this game just isn’t for you if you’re expecting to be competitive and/or hang with all those expectations and issues. Well at least not retail. Classic WoW would be more your speed since everything from classes to dungeon and raid encounters are much more simple, slow, and very well known/documented at this point.
they have an easy rotation, but yea, they are haste based with a shorter global cooldown, probably not for you. id say anything with a pet would be good, so try demonology. you can also try cast sequence macros to help with keybinds that way you can spam one key to do multiple things. its not great for maximizing dps, but with your condition, it could help you play the more complex rotations easier.
Then you don’t need to worry about literally all you said since all of those content choices are basically free and toothless. If your mind is made up about hunters, then demon hunters is the next free/easy choice but I 100% contend that a melee playstyle is harder for people with cognitive and/or physical mobility issues than a range is.
Your problem is you are basically nixxing the clear and best choice. All we can do is suggest poorer alternatives.
BM hunter is “best” overall. DH would be the best pure melee and guardian druid would be your best tank. Anything you pick though the stakes are low enough that being objectively bad won’t be too negatively impactful to your team though so don’t stress too hard on that front.
Yeah. The problem I face with my level 70 demon-lock is that DPS takes a while to ramp up until all the demon-based spells have gotten cast. It works better in longer fights.
And yes, I do have a few /sequence buttons going. Otherwise, it feels too much like this character (hunter). Which, even with my diminished ability, feels brain-dead.
