Class popularity

Do you think the lesser played classes from Vanilla will show up more in Classic now that we’ve had 15 years of min/maxing, macro creation and guides published for the more “niche” classes?

After way to much research, I plan to play a Druid, and honestly am hoping it’s still going to be a lesser played class.

Those ‘lesser played’ classes are only better due to skill and research. People who don’t do that research or have that skill will still be weak and reroll.

I don’t think that the differences are going to be that big, and Private Servers are even more against Druid healing than Vanilla was.

Well… Hunters might get more play since they are pretty decent early on. Other than that… no.

It will still be lesser played. Even min/maxing won’t make it a top tier dps/heals.

Hoping shamans arent super popular either, at least resto shamans. Need my guaranteed raid spot =p

Because people are set in their ways, I predict lesser played class/spec combos will still be rare. I do predict a tiny bit more prevalent usage though. Like guilds using a bear tank for offtanking raids, or an ele shaman who has found a way to create better mana efficiency…

At 1.12, a lot of stigma-heavy ‘meme specs’ perform a whole lot better than for the majority of vanilla.

A lot of people are coming to Classic to beat content that pummeled them years ago, however, so there will be an initial rush of copy/paste meta gaming. However, that will inevitably give way to people getting bored and leaving, or playing more experimentally.

What matters in any content is if it can do enough to get the boss dead and follow mechanics. Is the boss dead? Yes? Then it’s viable.

I can’t wait to see what kind of crazy things players try to come up with in the more sandbox-like environment that follows a bit after phase 6. It’s one reason I hope they don’t do fresh servers, because it perpetuates the rush-through-endgame meta.

Top guilds will run the meta no exceptions. Old raid mechanics weren’t as difficult in retrospect, and the game iq is a lot higher so some people’s perception of what’s “viable” may change depending on the player.

Hind sight will make the lesser played classes even more rare. Those who played gimp specs in vanilla and only stuck with it in the hopes that the next patch would bring balance now know that balance never came.

Hence, they will now correct their past mistakes at the character creation screen and just pick something without a heal button.

Quite the opposite for me at least. I played a Mage in Vanilla. Looking forward to Druid this time around, as I always thought they were cool back in the day but I was too lazy to level a new character.

I am fine with the fact that I will be healing in raids, though. I just want to eventually farm gear required for Balance/Resto PvP gear.

Exactly. Warrior all day err day for me now that I know better.
