Trying to get perspective on an issue I’ve been struggling with lately.
Shadowlands introduced less loot, more important/impactful loot.
Recently on several occasions I have been rewarded loot not for my spec or loot-spec. E.g. dagger on my outlaw rogue, 2h on my prot warrior, etc…
After digging a bit I discovered that other than The Great Vault, Raid bosses, these loot roles do not follow your current spec or loot-spec by design.
Rather they follow a “class” loot role.

As I understand loot sources, in a simplified way, for the purposes of this post:
Fixed (labeled): World Quests, quests, some chests, some rares that drop 1 thing for example. The item is ‘labeled’, such as a conduit. Or memory from a boss.
RNG (random): selected upon looting: Bosses, calling Chests, (emmissaries in BfA) for example. There is a chance at nothing of course.
My issue I guess is that callings and others are “class” specific not “loot” or “spec” specific loot.
Meaning you commit effort towards a chance at less loot, that may also not even be for your spec.
To express/expand what I’m trying to say:
Would you run a dungeon to get loot for any class/spec? I.e. cloth on your paladin… No.
Do you expect to get a shield on your priest? No.
Do you expect to get a bow or gun on your mage? No.
Do you expect a cloth robe on your warrior? No.
So here are my questions and purpose for this post:
Why are RNG loot possibilities not following my spec or chosen loot-spec?
What’s the reasoning behind it?
If blizzard is opening up loot to classes and not be spec specific, why not the whole hog and give Mages guns, and Priests shields?
