Or could just possibly rework those spells to only work on something that is casting something you can interrupt.
Your 3rd grader solution is to mock the player that hit their interrupt on a non-casting non-interruptible target. Such an Ion way of looking at a problem.
What a completely useless change and a waste of dev resources. Both the sound and the visual will be completely lost in the sea of spell vomit that are M+ pulls. Maybe make a proper interrupt tracker baseline or just let addon makers do what they used to do that everyone was happy with until Blizz decided to break something that was working.
Or, yes, just make interrupts work like dispels and not go on CD when they fail.
Why Blizzard ALWAYS insists on doing things in the most bassackwards way is truly mindboggling at times.
Neither does PvE. I’d rather they don’t dumb down the game further, this at least shows people are mistiming or kicking similar targets possibly and encourages communication.
You are just regurgitating dev propaganda to make yourself appear more than what you are. That “encourages communication” excuse doesn’t work, or it would be a non factor today. It needs a change, not doubling down on a broken system and thought process.
I think what this might do is show the few dps who actually kick when they’re kick gets sniped by another player. So the next time an interruptable spell is being cast, that player might wait, thinking the other guy will get it, and so he waits and watches the cast bar and when it’s almost to the end, he realizes that other guy isn’t gonna press it, so he tries to interrupt only to find he was a split second too late. That’s a really bad result.
That said, I’m not sure if rewriting the code such that failed kicks don’t go on cooldown is a good solution. On the plus side, it would make it easier to start training people to just automatically react to anything that might possibly be interruptable. However, that does remove an aspect of group coordination with kick rotations. Also, it would negatively impact PvP players who are casters. Perhaps a compromise. Failed kicks in PvP are unchanged, but failed kicks in PvE are given only a 50% cooldown.
Interrupts are not on the GCD. If they didn’t go on cooldown on failure, I would just macro my interrupt into every single rotational ability and then take it off my bars permanently.
In order to do your suggestion, they would have to put interrupts on the GCD, which seem like a far worse quality of life than the status quo.
I mean, that isn’t the worst idea in the world. Increase mob cast times to compensate. Still worse than just letting us make interrupt trackers like we used to have so people could actually, you know, coordinate. Just another way the game is worse overall with their addon changes.
PvP kicks should be unaffected, which imo is a baseline assumption Blizzard should have/has and the players can expect (bugs withstanding).
For PvE, while I’d be fine with a full interrupt CD return, 50% is more than fair. With the more recent change to longer interrupt lockouts, full CD return is maybe overkill.
I really wanted to touch on the scenario of playing chicken with other players. I play with 1 specific friend in almost every key I do, it’s great… problem is we have like the exact same mind when it comes to CC/interrupts. CC we work out better, but interrupts are a bit hard, especially in larger pulls. We could use world markers (and do), but this is a “perfect world” thing that doesn’t really work out depending on the pull, what dies, mechanics, etc.
We do try to work it out, but like I said it seems like we share a brain and just do things similarly a lot. I would like to think other people have a similar issue, where even when trying to be better, the game always tests you. PUG groups are even worse, especially when 1-2 people suddenly change their interrupt habits mid key/fight.
A partial interrupt return would do wonders, and I do get that it “raises” the floor (lowers difficulty) some. Not saying make a change just because some of us are annoyed or happen to interrupt at the same time, more so it sucks to do the right thing but someone else happens to do it .3 seconds faster, and now you cant interrupt that scary looking cast…
It’s not broken, not everyone can manage to kick appropriately, and just making that a non-factor doesn’t make the game better. I’m by no means cream of the crop as far as players go and I miss kicks on my own or over kick, but I’d like the game to allow for some amount of skill expression. It’s not punishment for a skill with à cooldown to go on cooldown if you press it.
As opposed to people just not kicking anyway? Modern dungeon design tends to have plenty to kick, and in the event that the dps are fighting for one cast any decent dps will kick as it gets close regardless.
So much effort for something that would be completely avoided with voice chat. It’s funny the lengths we’ll go not to have to speak with other pugs.
Which will make melee and DPS Shaman kicks free in the vast majority of situations and the ones where you still get punished would be the same level of punishment as the current system.
It’s not a work around, it’s a scam to try and get Blizzard to make the game less punishing.
As long as people have a single DPS Shaman in their group they will always have a kick ready in the proposed system because it would be a 6 second cooldown.
