Basic concept here is kind of like an Arcane version of the Paladin.
Specs: Tank, melee dps, ranged dps
Gear: Int for tank and melee, agi for ranged
- Tanks would use the same weapons/shields as H-pally and R-Shammy
- Melee dps would either use caster staffs or duel wield caster swords/maces/daggers
- Ranged dps would use bow or crossbows
Overview: The idea here is that are students of both magic and martial schools. They’re an order of underlings who have been in secret training with the Kirin Tor, started by Kadgar after the events in Legion when he realized how grossly underprepared Azeroth is.
While their studies include both martial and arcane techniques, they rely on technique for precision and magic rather than physical might to power their blows. Their spammable abilities would be empowered strikes. Their damage profile would be a near 50/50 split of physical and magic damage.
Tanks focus on active mitigation through “Mage Armor” which is a magical shield which scales with Int. Melee dps patterns would be similar to a Survival hunter, with a good mix of melee strikes and mid range abilities. Ranged would have patterns somewhere between hunters and casters, with a couple cast bars, a couple instant spells, but their cast bars would not allow them to auto attack during those casts. So ranged dps would not have 100% auto attack uptime like hunters.

Magus sounds too much like mage. Maybe Spellblade?

Magic guard.
It’s look like the paladin history of warcraft 2. Just replace light with arcane.

there’s been melee mages in WoW since classic. But only for NPCs - in classic live stratholme there’s battle mages with swords. Looks so bloody epic. Could really use melee cloth class. Like red mage in ff14

Nah.
Firstly, magus, is just another word for mage.
And, what you want is a spellsword or magic swordsman, which in wow aren’t really strong in concept (because that’s just dual classing) and so are just lesser versions of dks and paladins.
Make it a mage spec, giving mages access to tank role.
But paladins are literally just dual class priest and warrior

I get that, but just think about it, sure a priest that learns to be a warrior could probably call himself a paladin. But a paladin can’t call himself a priest.
Lore wise, this is actually a thing that happens a fair bit. It really makes no sense that ANY race that can be both priests and warriors can’t be Paladins. Many warriors become Paladins because they choose to embrace the Light, and many priests decide to seriously pick up arms and become Paladins as well. The fact that Blizz is so stingy on who they let be Paladins, but they hand out the Shaman class like candy on a kids buffet really has never made much sense to me.

I was thinking more like a Pally/DK equivalent. Like in my mind a Pally is just a priest and a warrior having a baby, and a DK is just a warlock and warrior having a baby. So why not throw a mage/warrior in the mix?
Although, a cool spin might be to do a cloth physical/magic mashup, more like Mage and Monk had a baby.
Technicly that’s because paladins used to be an order, it wasn’t based on abilities. xd
Argument falls flat. The Argent Crusade and the Aldor are both neutral organizations that have Paladins in them. Anybody should be able to talk to those groups to learn and become one. You think either the Argent’s or the Aldor would turn people down?

?
It’s not because they’re neutral that their paladins were not part of the order.
I don’t understand what you are trying to say here.
If a paladin from those faction would make you learn how to be one, you would still have been formed by the order. But clearly, not all races are everything because that concept doesn’t apply praticly to what is expected to be common for a race, which is the concept of why certain races don’t have acess to certain classes.
Sure, but you could still take those skills with you to benefit your faction later. Also what is to stop me from going to say… the Tauren, sitting down with one of their Paladins, and going “So I’d like to learn about An’she.” as just an example.
At this point, there are opportunities abound for those wanting to learn and I strongly doubt our allies would turn down somebody wanting to learn. Everybody is individuals and painting a broad brush of “race can’t be X” is just silly now.
Because that would be an anomaly, not something common.
There might be one or 2 in the world that did, as a player you are playing a common adventurer.
Negative. We are CHAMPIONS. Horde side, for the Zanda’s the PC also literally represents the Voice of the Horde. WoD we are generals, I forget exactly what it was for Legion as I didn’t play it, but you were of big important for your order hall… The PC is no common adventurer. We would be the exception, we would be the anomaly.
But daddddddddddd, anduin does it all the time
Anduin is a priest. Have you seen him fight in melee sucessfully? He use that sword more like a caster weapon and the armor is just there for fluff because that character is horrible they had to buff him to make him look decent.
Oh you took that bait, nothing you do affect the story. You never get a choice that change the story. You are just part of the world of warcraft. this isn’t a single player game where you get to decide, at the end your name will be forgotten and they will just say the players were “champions/heroes of the horde” or “adventurers” it’s all the same you are someone unremarkable part of a group even if the questlines etc. will try to make you look important. That’s just how it works.
Idk he bodied the crap out of that troll that rushed him with just one hand.
Either way, I would say paladins can be called priests since that’s literally what they are from. Paladins were priests who in the original horde invasions began training with martial weapons. If anything, current anduin represents perfectly how the original paladins became a thing. Sure he still needs more training but hes in process.
