Class Fantasy: Off healing class idea

Longtime monk main, I play all 3 specs and love each one. If not my monk, I play Paladin and Druid because they can do all three roles and I love their class fantasy/identity.

However, I started maining Paladin after not getting invited to M+ groups on my monk day in and day out… 20+ minute of getting declined for groups as healer is insane.

So I tried out Prot/Ret halfway through this season to change it up. And oh my god, its clear Paladin is Blizzard’s favorite class by a MILE. Its brainless, its fun, its flashy, and it hits hard. Personally though, the off-healing playstyle is whats so addicting. Mostly through WoG/Eternal Flame, but also through the base Paladin talents like the healing Consecration, Lightbearer, Seal of the Crusader, Lightforged Blessing, Lay on Hands and all their defensives. I cant go back to monk. In most of my runs on Ret, I’m doing almost as much healing as the tank and still top DPS almost every time. Some packs Ill top healing. And its not internal healing like most classes, its mostly external.

Sure druid sort of can too, but its less consistent across specs and they usually rely on only Regrowth or Convoke. Even then its squat. However the Dream of Cenarius talent is a step in the right direction, but its only for Resto.

I think Ancient Teachings (especially with the nerfed baseline passive it is now) should be a monk talent tree talent and not just for Mistweavers. I think Vivify should do more external healing. I think Celestial Conduit should pump out CRAAAZY healing, hell even Jadefire Stomp for WW should do more healing than it does. Maybe heal with Rushing Jade Wind? Keg Smash “splashes” onto allies to give them a little heal. Make Spinning Crane Kick have the same interaction Divine Storm has with Lightforged Blessing. Idk, SOMETHING. We don’t have any selling point utility like Brez or Lust and havent been meta since… well ever. (Im not saying i want to be meta, meta chasers are generally the worst players)

And like I say with Paladin, Id be happy giving up damage if it meant leaning into the off healing fantasy more. Its great as is, Im just saying pump up Monk to similar.

Let me know what you think, I know this reopens the whole issue of not needing a healer, like 1 tank 4 self sustain DPS. (Which really wasnt even an issue with 99% of players)

Unrelated if you made it this far but also Blizz, MAKE A SHAMAN EARTH-BASED TANK SPEC.

Interesting. I had no idea Paladin had that much passive group healing. 10% of all damage + 50% attack power is a lot …

For reference, shamans 2 minute cooldown makes it so 25% of damage transfers into healing but only for 10 seconds. So Paladin is like … always healing for 10% with that talent …

Ancient teachings is 30% of dmg done so it’d have to be like 30% for MW and 10% for brew and windwalker.

They’d have to put it somewhere near the top left … I dunno if there’s anything there they could bake in.

Maybe they could add it next to jade walk.

Paladins don’t heal for 10% of all damage and 50% of attack power every auto onto 1 person isn’t a lot.

Dear Diary,

I did better on a braindead easy paly than a complicated monk and healed more than a bad healer.

It felt good. Thanks blizz.

(PS: They should significant nerf the healing hybrids can do and reduce all DPS defensive cooldowns. The stated goal was to move away from one shots but this degenerate “dps acting as healer gameplay” is counterintuitive to their stated goal of moving away from one shots )

You got your wish. Nature’s Vigil sucks, Ancestral Guidance is being removed, prot paladin WoG’s on allies is already hard to swing with the ludicrous mana cost, and ret is losing the Healing Hands talent that buffed their WoGs on allies, and the mana cost is being increased.

This isn’t a class fantasy that blizzard is ok with. No point in asking for it as they are taking steps to further remove this from the game as we speak.

They need to go further imo. Reduce the effectiveness of dps and group-wide defensives significantly too. They kept adding defensives and buffing them because of the one shots, keeping those abilities while trying to move away from one shots is part of them problem.

I recently started a Paladin alt but still prefer Monk, mostly for Soothing Mist. I’ve tanked up to +3 on the Paladin and noticed its strong interrupts, but I don’t have enough experience for a meaningful comparison yet.

Also I like our green mist / theme.

I appreciate everyones feedback on this!

And yeah, the future looks bleak lol. Still, idk I think bringing up Augvoker is important. Its strictly a support class with off healing. So like… whats the difference?

Theres no right or wrong answers.

Ngl tho, the season 2 changes for Windwalker and the base druid talent tree look HYYYYPE! Cant wait!
