Since there are no class forums for Classic could someone tell me what it’s like to play a Shaman?
Specififally, is it fun? (yes I know it’s subjective but still give me your input)
I imagine you level as enhance… can you heal dungeons ? Does killing mobs feel like a drag ?
Any other forms of discussion would be appreciated.
This is BC infos, (never had one 'nilla), but some of the most enjoyable time i spent in game was running 10-40 BGs as resto. Its hilarious fun being a sneaky healer. Of course, you’ll need to wait a while for that (which is why im holding back on leveling mine).
Shaman is actually one of the more interesting classes to play because they have a very diverse tool kit. Massive variety of totems, 3 different instant cast ranged nukes solid melee damage, a variety of long cast spells, heals.
Shamans are awesome and very fun. Probably the most diverse and mechanically rich class in the game
Shamans are pretty neat, a flexibile class than can melee, range DPS, or heal during leveling, and ghost wolf is a huge boon in traveling the world
Endgame most Shaman will be going Resto due to their AoE healing, unless you go Enhance and become a totembot and your group needs it, but if you really wanna DPS I think you can get away with it
PvP Enhance is hilarious thanks to Windfury, with a good weapon, Blood Fury, and a WF proc, you can literally one shot cloth wearers and terrify anyone else with near death (Doing this will make you a priority target in PvP though)
Large toolkit, very high skill cap to play effectively. A well-played shaman is a force to be reckoned with while a poorly-played shaman is less than a speed bump.
Don’t be afraid to mix/match cloth/leather up through 40 and leather/mail the rest of the way. Stat balance is crucial.
Talent points are best spent in enhance and elemental so stuff dies decently but you can still heal manageably in 5-mans. Once you get up near 60, resto/ele with a couple enhance points is fun. Going full-blown DPS at 60 is hard gear-wise and you’ll STILL need to know where your heal buttons are.
You owe it to yourself to know your totems; what they do and when to use them.
i like shaman, you might wait until 40 to get water totem if you make one, not a big deal really, i got mine just cuz i was bored, don’t have windfury yet, few more lvls tho and i’ll be smacking even harder, already doing well over 200 crits with the wc staff
I was playing a druid and got to level 15. Took 2 evenings. Re-rolled shaman and got to 10 in 2 hours. Died once on purpose to spirit rez. Having a far greater time on my shaman than druid so far.
It’s just that they are slow in comparison to other classes in the 15-40ish range.
But really fast 1-15 (Probably the fastest class in that range)
Again Shaman really hit their groove in the mid 40s as their talents start to get some synergy.
huh, i guess i’m just lucky, the 5% crit with weapon swings and slowly picking up the Flurry talent or whatever that gives me more and more attack speed from the crits is such a big boost, i think the majority of my damage comes from auto attacks, i’m not havin a bad time tho
It doesn’t really fall off. I’d say it starts to pick up around 20-30, actually, since you can get the Crescent Staff and you start having some actual spirit on your gear.
30-40 is a bit of a fall off compared to other classes, at times, because as awesome as it is Windfury is not reliable.
Windfury has a 3 second internal cooldown (as far as I know - it did in Vanilla, I have not seen it thoroughly tested in Classic) so you don’t usually want to use a dagger with it.
If you are all about Min/Max and big numbers don’t play a Shaman. Shaman is fun to level and can be easy to play on the surface, tough to master/
Once near endgame Shaman used and played right are highly valuable. Correct totem usage, appropriate spot heals, interrupts, and Ankh make life easier.
My old tank is on my server (purely by accident) She was commenting how much easier life is with with me playing that role and how it’s gone in retail.
Short story is: Fun class, you will often need to heal so Keep a set of heal gear, and know what every spell and totem brings to the raid. Importantly check your pride and dps meter at the door
I haven’t leveled one in classic yet, but I did in Vanilla. I leveled as elemental and healed dungeons. People will complain and tell you they aren’t worth having but those are fools because shamans give great buffs with their totems. Enhancement is pretty good too, you can tank most dungeons until around Scholomance, my buddy was enhance and decked out in the highest PvP gear and still had issues trying to tank back in the day anything higher than that.
If you go orc, I’d recommend enhance with a two hander, if you go healer or elemental, troll is the best cause of their racials, but I’m partial to taurens. They are just the best lol
i definitely keep healing gear in the bank, i’ll never shy away from healing a dungeon
ghost wolf is amazing, i can’t imagine having to walk until 40, mage wasn’t so bad because they can at least do some teleports n stuff but ye
you’re probably right about meteor shard + wf internal cd, i’m gonna try to read about that more, maybe if it is exactly 3 second i can find a 2h with a 3 second swing timer
