Class Development Q&A

Would it be possible for the developers to host a Q&A specifically regarding the current status of classes? Call it a “class development” Q&A or something. With 8.1 out and some specs still feeling underwhelming, I’m sure the community would be grateful for any discussion that would indicate feedback has been heard and that they won’t have to wait for 9.0 before anything happens.

Not satisfied with your class or spec? Please politely voice your specific concerns in this thread so that the developers know that we WANT to hear from them.

if it’s anything like the lore stream, it’d just be the devs patting each other on the back about how cool the new spell animations look and how much fun they’re having designing the game.

Maybe it’s just me, but I thought it was nice to see some artists from Blizzard expressing how much they love what they do and how cool they think their creations are. :woman_shrugging:t3: They clearly enjoy it.

And that wasn’t a Q&A, besides.

I support this idea. It would be nice to know the list of things they are LOOKING at, even if they cant tell us any specifics.

Buff Paladins!! More buffs!! We need another button for ret as the rotation is missing something to build holy power…do not touch Prot as it is beautiful but weak on DPS… Holy no idea

When I say this, I don’t intend any deeper meaning or bitterness behind it… but I think that they simply don’t care about class design feedback. Not to say they don’t care about feedback in general, but they seem rather stubborn on the class front. Mountains of ignored alpha/beta feed back from WoD on, reluctant changes that should have been obvious from the launch of expansions like rogue blind or warrior IP off the GCD, and the overall reduction of abilities through removal or putting them as talents.

Sadly I think it’s gotten to the point where people can argue, suggest, and give feedback all they want but when it comes to class design it might be the most futile place to direct those efforts.

true, but when it was first announced, it was heavily implied. At the end of the Q&A in december, Josh Allen said something along the lines of “we hope to have another one of these in January,” and once it was announced at just a ‘lore stream’ we were still encouraged to give points of interest for them to talk about.

Was the stream bad? not at all. i’m glad they enjoy their jobs. But it was just a rehash of panels from blizzcon with no new information, and even the ‘lore’ aspect of it took a backseat to the art department. They spent so much time talking about the cinematics and how cool they were, and very little about the actual story of WoW.

Yeah, I’m all for this.

Also I want them to answer what direction the classes are going in overall, because if all we’re going to get expansion over expansion is a pruning of abilities while one or two are added and nothing really changes, then I’m probably going to be unsubbing sooner rather than later.

How are the classes going to evolve and change, beyond the balancing and pruning act that we’ve seen for the last however many expansions.

Nothing against the previous stream. I also enjoyed it. I’m simply requesting a specific topic for a future Q&A.

And then not once did they actually announce it as a Q&A. People heard him vaguely say they want to do “another one” and assumed it would be, and then were disappointed.

that’s kind of the definition of the word ‘implied.’

i dont remember his exact wording off the top of my head, but i do know he used the exact phrase “another one of these,” and it was in a Q&A. To assume it would be a Q&A is not unfair, and again, they encouraged talking points beforehand, none of which were touched upon.

But to assume after that that it would still be a Q&A, despite it never being advertised as one, is pretty silly.

Anyway, this doesn’t have anything to do with this thread.

30+ specs, attempting to address at the very least raid and mythic+ performance… along with the complication that is small and large scale PVP?

That’s going to require a fair bit of time and likely more than just Watcher willing to identify themselves as the target for all ‘feedback’ going forward. I can see them running into a batch of “WHY DIDN’T YOU ADDRESS X CLASS FOR LONGER THAN 2 minutes” complaints otherwise.

i disagree. If you go to a luncheon at the office, and after its said and done with the boss announces “we’re gonna have another one of these next week,” Would you eat beforehand? Would you feel misled when you find out that there was no catering for the meeting?

And yes, this has nothing to do with the point of the thread, aside from the fact that Q&As rarely touch upon the difficult questions.

If we did end up getting a Class Development Q&A, I would certainly lower my expectations about getting answers about classes that are having problems.

Wouldn’t there actually need to be class development to have a Q&A?

Our classes are the same at 120 as they were at 100. Nothing new added. A lot removed. They aren’t developing classes. They are just “turning knobs” to try and balance things.

Nope, because from the Devs point of view, or whoever designed the class to the horrible state they in, believes the class is enjoyable and no matter what we say as players regarding how boring the class is and how far it is from that fantasy and fun style, even if it is topping dps meters, they will say “you think you do, but you don’t”. To them, we don’t know what fun is, so they will continue to gather their information from Metrics rather than individual’s Feedback. Even if they do do a Q&A on class design, they wont even attempt to make the class 1% enjoyable to the crap we have now, because they don’t want to; 1). redesign the whole class, though they did a decent job with Survival Hunters, 2). They are so low on funds that they don’t even have the $ to do so (No Idea on that side), I guess that’s a given considering the low budget artifact designs and mounts we got last expansion, and 3). “They” (The Devs) are happy with what they design, so the only things players can do is a). continue to support it, or b). leave because its not fun, which we see many do.

I’d love to see a class centric Q&A for each class (I’ve actually suggested it a few times), they already have a lead developer for each class, so it’s not like they’re strained for time, they could easily sit CM down and one of the devs and read of Questions about design choices for a half on hour.

They are not trying to “balance” things by removing abilities. They are/were trying to reinvent the class with different abilities or bring back old ones to keep the classes new and different per expansion, yet in doing so they made the class, imbalanced, lack identity and fantasy over the years of tuning. If they wanted balance, they could have kept the abilities they had before, while bringing in new ones; given the amount of time passed from past expansions. Many games have done well doing this, but WoW Devs have taken this path and made it the worst move ever. Why you think so many classes and their specs under perform this expansion and previous ones?

They will just hand pick easy useless questions and refuse to make the changes needed to fix the game. Its time to move on because these guys dont care what we think.

Yup. If you look at the changes they make its usually buffs and nerfs and adding like one or two abilities into the mix and those abilities most likely have no synergy nor does it fix the “problem”. They don’t even attempt to fix the internal issues with the classes and their specs. They’ll continue to avoid communication in class forums. It would be nice if we had a Blue post make a thread asking for helpful thoughts on classes and their specs to see what “their” players enjoy or what ever to engage with the community. And no I’m not talking about MVPs or Community Managers I’m talking about the Class Design Devs.
