Wow, -50%.
Should be 15-25%, not straight up 1/2.
I haven’t see such a large % before in years.
They usually do small % like 5-20% to play and balance around.
Because at 50%, you can’t really do much else to the talent anymore unless nerf it to -75%.
So, they are nerfing prot warriors AoE by 50% dmg, but aren’t buffing their self heals at all or giving them any other utilities to bring to groups. Seems fair. /s
They are nerfing a talent by 50% damage. The CD reduction, and therefore rage gen, is still in full value. So this only lowers the burst AoE. BoM wasn’t touched. This is literally, instead of 200k on a reaping wave, like I called, you’ll only do 140-160k. Still more than any other tank by a mile.
A; first iteration of a PTR that isn’t even testable or up yet.
B; because the MDI is going on and they need to show people “Hey, these are the initial notes for the not yet live ptr we’re going to have up soon, and we promise we’re looking at the silly stuff”
Then buff all of them.
Kinda weird that they give Outlaw a ST buff while barely taking away anything.
The AOE damage will still be there.
So we are still back to square 1 though.
Amazing AOE and utility, but now, amazing ST.
I don’t understand how Blizzard work sometimes.
You will still want 2x rogues and monk in the next MDI unless we get new traits and information next week.
But with how they show off the new neck system, I highly doubt we will see anything amazing with the new traits.
Reviewing the patch notes, I was wrong. This does not affect single target at all. It’s a buff to 2 target cleave, and a nerf to cleave and aoe from 3 targets onwards. The more targets there are above 2, the bigger the nerf.
This isn’t a big nerf from 3-5 targets, but from 6-10, this is a 7-15% nerf, on and on. It’s pretty significant, as the trait is what made outlaws cleave and aoe go from strong to stupid.
They should tune the way mass aoe and quadratic scaling works on all abilities, when tanks can actually survive huge pulls, classes without these abilities go down in effectiveness ten fold (literally). Outlaw maybe not as much, but other than tanks there should be a target cap. All classes or none imo, I know this is homogenizing the game, but as the old adage “if you can’t beat them join them”, maybe they can join us for a change. Basically what the outlaw change is in a small step. But then they would have to acknowledge the inherent flaws of obsolete design/limited tool kit.
Developers’ notes: More than other tanks, Vengeance is currently dealing with the problem of low mitigation when their active mitigation is down.
Lemme amend that for Blizzard:
Developers’ notes: More than other tanks (except Prot Warrior but I’ll be damned if we play our game) , Vengeance is currently dealing with the problem of low mitigation when their active mitigation is down.
Our niche as being high output gets nullified if this hefty nerf goes through. Which is FINE, but we need another couple of small defensive buffs to then compensate. I believe mathematically this puts us in-line with Prot Pally capabilities, except they have % reduction mitigation which vastly outweighs us in magic damage fights. Ignore Pain is too much of a piece of garbage to be worth using unless I get a bunch of procs and can squeeze out the Rage cost for it.
Based on my own damage breakdown for dungeons, the 50% UF nerf should come out to roughly an 8% overall damage nerf which is pretty fair, I think. These are only initial PTR build changes though, so we could get hit harder.
Nerfing thunderclap by 50% certainly nerfs warrior DPS! A small nerf might be warranted, but 50% sounds like typical Blizzard overkill, given it’s our primary method of gaining and maintaining AOE threat.
An 8% overall damage nerf is massive. Don’t let the M+20 tail wag the heroic/mythic0 dog.
So increase the damage trash mobs do in dungeons by 50% or 100% as necessary to make sure that pulling more than one or two groups is a guaranteed wipe.
Heroics & Mythic 0’s? Are you really suggesting this is going to have an effect on a prot warrior’s ability to compete in a mythic 0?
Mythic Plus is infinitely scaleable. 50% damage is like 3 ranks. Increasing damage just means a lower ceiling for pushing. Most of the pain from this would be felt by people trying to complete a weekly 10 that suddenly find it hitting as hard as next season’s 10.
It basically halves our AOE threat generation in mythic 0. That will absolutely have a massive effect on gear appropriate prot warriors’ ability to compete in mythic 0, and also in heroic and normal and leveling dungeons. I’ve been there and done that back when prot warrior was the weak tanking spec, and I’ve seen it first hand.
That would be fine; in fact, it would be an improvement, since it would bring the difficulty of +10s better into line with the weekly ilvl rewarded for them.
Doing 150% thunderclap damage during avatar instead of 200% is going to half your AOE threat generation? I’m gonna go with no. And there isn’t a competition in mythic 0’s. Queue up with appropriate gear, get accepted and complete dungeon regardless of class, assuming people aren’t seeking a specific gear type.
Mythic 10’s give 400’s, same as a heroic raid. Both are about as easy. The difficulty to reward is appropriate.
