The balancing should be taken from looking at data from all forms of player. Not everyone raids and has perfected every little timing, and a lot of players do not have a literal dashboard of addons to help them.
If the Average player who plays X class manages to do X amount of damage, compare it apples to apples to other classes and balance based on that.

Those players should try DH. It’s not amazing at the high end, but it’s soooo easy to do good damage.

It’s really, really tempting… Being a Demo lock is so much fun, but god almighty we are being left in the dirt. Being a turret class sucks.

If it helps, you would get Metamorphasis back! Try it, you will not regret it!
I’ve been enjoying DH tanking, but I am concerned they will nerf the survivability when it’s not really that exceptional. People just seem to assume they are OP in every way because they have good damage.
I’ve been rocking the Fiery Brand build and not the MDI DPS build though, mostly since I prefer using resources to build survivability as a tank instead of to build DPS.
All the MDI does is show what classes do the most damage. They basically ignore everything else since it’s a race. There is also the Shadowmeld factor that made any class a Night Elf can’t be a lot less appealing. If it weren’t for Shadowmeld I imagine many more Holy/Prot Paladins would have been in the MDI.

That’s ridiculous.
Class balancing is done based on peaks, not valleys. The average player can’t time a key higher than a +10. There is zero reason to do balancing based on metrics from players that don’t even play the class correctly.

This is a horrible take and a terrible idea. Shame on you.

And look where that go us. Is such good balancing that some class have no way to get into meaningful content.

Exactly! Some people don’t see the bigger picture.
I agree, cap loot at m+10
No, that is a completely awful and wrong way to balance a video game.
You do not balance around people that cannot play correctly, you balance around the spec’s full potential.
And thats how you end up with so many classes that feel like crap to play now. Instead of the game being fun and all play styles in AN RPG working you have to conform to one specific mold just to be average.

What “Class” is unable to do Meaningful content?

what would you be doing right now if you weren’t a mythic raid caliber shaman?
The reasoning is flawed, but I do agree with the premise. MDI is very often not representative of how the majority of players play the game, or representative of a realistic way to play. They tend to do very specific things to the benefit of their comps that don’t apply to most groups.

All classes are easy…too easy. You can play it perfectly if you put a bit of effort. They always balance the class around Mythic raiding and even that they still fail.
If you don’t raid, and if you don’t do high end content, then balancing doesn’t really matter. Everyone has access to addons (DBM is a staple).
They don’t. If they did we would have seen big nerfs to Disc. Instead we see survival bufs.
They’d be a mythic raid caliber literally any class they want to play

there is a whole world outside of wow, my dude. walk outside. don’t be afraid of the glowy yellow ball in the sky.
I agree that it shouldn’t just be from the MDI.
But they need to take more into account that what you’re suggesting. The reality is that most of the best players move towards specs that are performing well.
So a 10% gap shown in the log data, might in reality only be a 2-3% gap with the rest of the difference simply being made by having a lot more top performing players.
I assume they’re relying off their own data sims, which should be able to accurately predict what the top performers will be in any situation they test (if played correctly). Then they can tweak as needed when they see scenarios they didn’t predict (e.g. MDI stuff).

That’s a weird response for a dude trying to imply some shaman in GD is only doing mythic raid content because they’re a shaman. Unsure how me responding to a bad take from an LFR quality monk means i don’t go outside.
