Clarification on Multiboxing software please

Dear Blizzard,

Is it possible to get some clarification on Multiboxing?

I have recently just started multiboxing myself a couple of months ago. The driving force of this is I work full time and I find it very time consuming applying for groups. My general experience is getting rejected because I am not 20 ilvls over the loot that’s dropped in the dungeon. In addition, solo content only gets you to a certain point. I also enjoy the extra interesting challenge playing 5 character’s bring, when doing content like dungeons.

I do understand some of the hate that’s sent multiboxers way, as a number of people give it a bad name, and I personally find it unbecoming/on the verge of botting, to sit in the same area seemingly afk, farming for hours on end whether it be mobs or resource nodes, and have never done this myself. I am approaching this issue from the perspective of someone wanting to push actual content. For those who think multiboxing gives you an advantage in this aspect of the game, it’s not the case at all, 5 individuals will always perform better. BUT at least I can play, without having to apply endlessly to groups or deal with unpleasant people. When I come home from work, I can jump on and just play. No muss, no fuss.

So the clarification needed is - is this incoming ban on the software that allows multiboxing aimed at specifically bots, and perhaps multiboxers verging on botting by endlessly farming mobs/resource nodes? Or is this aimed at multiboxers as a whole? At the end of the day I don’t want to put my account in jeopardy, but if some sort of middle ground isn’t reached where those actually playing/pushing content are not given a pass so to speak, it’s means I can’t play how I choose to, and if that’s the case, so be it, I can make an informed decision from there on the amount of time I spend playing WoW.

I know this post might attract some haters, I know some of it is with legitimate reason towards multiboxers by how they have chosen to “play” (farm), but some of these haters are also the types I referred to earlier that I would rather not play with.

Blizzard, I hope that you will respond and clarify more about the coming ban on multiboxing software. Are you in effect looking to end Multiboxing?

Thanks

You’re not getting a response from Blizzard in GD. I’d suggest moving this to the CS forum maybe. Also, I’d suggest reading all of the articles Blizzard posted, which clearly define what the policy targets.

Unfortunately it’s pretty clear. You cannot use software that clones keystrokes to multiple clients without running the risk of having an action taken against your account.

You can use other methods to achieve the same result such as hardware solutions that have always existed to enable multiboxing.

The stance isn’t against serious (hobbyist) multiboxers or even farming nodes endlessly, as that takes very little effort to do on multiple clients. The stance is against novice multiboxers that use third party programs to easily enable it.

It’s unfortunate and sort of kills a fun aspect of the game imo.

I will report every multiboxer who is apparently using input broadcasting. Have fun trying to ruleslawyer that your input broacasting is hardware based and therefore exempt.

CS is not staffed by developers, nor are they liaisons to the developers. They would direct you to post in General. Alternatively, you can ask them on Twitter @WarcraftDevs

I theoretically believe it’s aimed at deterring mass node farming (8-10 boxers or large scale ruining gathering) &/ pvp (though /follow not working in bgs years ago nerfed that), and boxing/botting combo is mentioned in the article. Shame is that casual boxers that weren’t ruining anyone’s experience are punished equally here. Software broadcast is disabled now. Leaving manual control of follower(s) or hardware the only options now.
