Right-click the folder and look for the Read Only checkmark on the Attributes at the bottom of the General tab (default tab).
it’s windows 10 /11. microshaft made a update to make ALL files and folders (and new installs) set to read only. any files in the folders can have that flag removed / unticked but the flag will always reapply / ticked on the folders
I think this may depend on your Windows account itself, as my folder did not get Read Only re-ticked after I removed it.
I did some troubleshooting with my friend last night, and it’s strange.
His config file read the same as mine for the intro movie’s state, and he has WoW in its own folder within the drive, not Program Files. Pretty much identical to my setup, but his plays every time and mine does not.
I would tell him to reinstall into the default location.
If this helps (I’m not sure if we should keep recreating new threads on this same topic every time it’s relevant or add to the same one?)
Noticing the same issue is now happening on my DK (lv 71, early into TWW).
It does not happen on my Mage (lv 60, hasn’t done DF), nor my Shaman (lv 68, has the TWW intro quest, is partway through DF).
It does not happen on a freshly created character (in case the fact that the Shaman was made prior to TWW release has any effect on this).
I’m not sure if it’s because I logged out during the intro questchain (prior to hitting the first city) in TWW (thinking it was safe to do so in Dalaran, which I also notice there have been some oddities since: the DK now logins without access to General and Trade, which I apparently must join manually every time I log in on her!
According to some other posts I’ve dug up it’s possibly related to CVars. People with the cinematic issue have been seeing a variable related to intro movie viewing set to weird values such as 11 or 13; resetting this to 0 does nothing, and total resets have very random results.
(Edit: Found the AdvancedInterfaceOptions addon, changed the playIntroMovie variable to 0 - it was 13. It does nothing.)
It may also be noted that CVars are saved SERVER SIDE, and deleting the client side version actually doesn’t change stuff, according to other things I’ve dug up …
Great, so it sounds like a server issue and owing to the lack of response people are getting from CS (I haven’t tried going through the web maze to file a ticket yet myself, last time I did that was for a glitch with guild chat that wouldn’t go away without one) … I start to wonder if affected characters are basically screwed and it’s probably better unless you have endgame progression to vendor/warbank everything, recreate and redo if this is the case for your character?
Doubt it’s a server issue, there are not enough posts indicating it is happening to everyone, just a few.
Doubt it’s a character issue, so you can rule out redoing your character. Otherwise it would player every time a specific character enters game. It should only be playing once if do a fresh install, when you patch, or you reset your UI.
CS does not program game changes, as far as GM staff go. This is more of a client is not saving this preference to your config file, but again it’s not happening to every player, so it’s likely a local file save issue causing the config file to not save. Likely it is in the install, so even making new accounts likely would not help either.
Tried clearing the cache and moving aside WTF and AddOns, logging in with a fresh Blizzard UI.
Cinematic.
Logged out, logged back in.
Cinematic.
Plus the concurrent issue I’m specifically getting with being dumped out of all my public chat channels (i.e. I need to do a manual /join Trade and /join General every single logon to get them) survives a client settings reset too.
It does not happen with any other character, even the level 68 shaman who even has the very first TWW quest in her log already (although I haven’t actually done anything with it, and the Sargeras yadda scene doesn’t IIRC first roll until after you depart for Dalaran?), nor the fresh Pandaren I rolled as a check to see if whether the character was made before or after 11.0 release (the shaman was made during mid DF, the DK was made about two weeks ago) mattered (as googling around other threads on the topic has indicated some poor souls have had it happen to ALL their characters, even ones not yet able to begin TWW?).
Since a reroll would be a different character, I wonder if that might yield a fix. Still, extremely annoying (and I guess the way season and gatekeeping culture is these days I can forget about ever seeing the raids or even keys at that rate unless I burn a premium boost? ugh), the warbank only makes things a little less painful …
(It might be noted that the bugged character is the only one I have on Tichondrius, and that at least one other person in Tichondrius trade was experiencing similar issues as well. Maybe Tichondrius is still not for you? …)
