Chronological telling of the events of BFA?

So I took a 6-8+ month break between when BFA started and recently, so when I came back all sorts of weird stuff happened. I mean I had quests to request Jaina from being trapped in Hades while simultaneously having quests from Jaina to both kill Baine and rescue Baine.

So I am not 100% clear on what happened. Can anyone enlighten me as to what happened? I am more interested in the Alliance side, but I would like to just know the full story if Hordies want to post.

The purpose is to perhaps return to and complete this RP project that I started before I took my break: us.forums.blizzard(dot)com/en/wow/t/war-journal-of-knight-captain-standhaft-garithos-the-warbreaker/316349

They removed all the requirements that made them go in chronological order, that’s why it doesn’t make sense.

The basic chronology is rescue Jaina comes first followed by spy on Baine’s arrest then free Baine as thanks for freeing Derek from Sylvanas.

You can look up a proper detailed guide for it on Wowhead to see what ones you should do first.

As I’m sure you know, Jaina was arrested after arriving at Kul Tiras. She was given to Ashvane who tried to have the Drust take her to their realm so she wasn’t recoverable. After realising Ashvane was a traitor, Katherine feared what happened to Jaina and, at Greymane’s urging, begun a quest to save her, with us at her side. After adventuring across Kul Tiras we save Jaina from Thros, a portion of the Emerald Dream still corrupted by the Nightmare, but a unique strain of the Nightmare.

Once returned, Jaina saves the missing Kul Tiran fleet and Ashvane is arrested. Katherine decides that Jaina should be made Lord Admiral. I believe the story is going with the belief that Daelin was wrong to attack the Horde back in WCIII, so Jaina was in the right to resist him. Or something. Either way, Jaina now rules Kul Tiras.

During Zandalar’s story, the traitor Zul kills the patron Loa of the royal family, Rezan, and blood trolls are invading Zuldazar en mass. To gain additional power, King Rastakhan makes a bargain with Bwonsamdi, binding his bloodline to him in return for the power to save his city. Zul is killed and most of the invaders shattered, but they were able to break the seal as planned despite the bargain.

Throughout the war campaign the 7th Legion is establishing a presence on Zandalar, hunting a Horde aligned Darkfallen, and sabotaging the ships of the Golden Fleet assigned to defend the city for an eventual siege on Dazar’alor. In the Horde’s campaign, the body of Derek Proudmoore is accidently found and recovered as they looked for someone else’s corpse, at first to use to taunt the Proudmoores. The Horde also steals an artefact from the Kul Tirans that allows them to control water. They used this to destroy a fleet of Kul Tiras. Following this, Saurfang was released from prison by Anduin though it was disgused as an escape.

After G’huun’s defeat in Uldir, stopping him from being unleashed and becoming a full Old God, the war reassumes. The Alliance continue to plan for their invasion of Dazar’alor, stealing back the artefact of tides the Horde used to destroy a fleet, recruiting and enhancing a gorilla, etc. The battle lines are set and the invasion begins. They detonated their bombs, destroying much of the Golden fleet save for the parts not at Dazar’alor.

The Alliance’s ultimate goal in invading Dazar’alor was… odd. They basically hoped by sacking the city and capturing Rastakhan, the Zandalari would be cowed into not helping the Horde. Bwonsamdi’s bargain led to him empowering Rastakhan, but the Alliance still were able to kill him after he refused to surrender to them. The Alliance begun their retreat, however Mekkatorque was defeated by the Horde and his escape capsul malfunction, trapping him in an ice-state coma. Jaina lured Horde heroes away from the retreating fleet and tried to kill them, but the Horde players started to over come her and she was forced to flee.

Still, the Alliance achieved what they wanted; the Golden Fleet was wrecked and Rastakhan removed. However, it did not have the desired affect. New Queen Talanji was more determined than ever to join the Horde, and the Zandalari were vengeful, not cowed. The Horde fleet was in tatters however. Sylvanas decided to raise Derek Proudmoore with some dark plan in mind. Baine was outraged and helped free Derek, returning him to the Kul Tirans, to Jaina, for which he was arrested. At this point in time, the Alliance has the upper hand and was winning the war. That shortly changes.

Tyrande petitions to Anduin for aid in reclaiming Darkshore, but with battles across Arathi, Kul Tiras, Zandalar and other small fronts, they can’t spare the numbers. Tyrande goes anyway, supported by the Gilneans, and uses some old forbidden ritual to infuse herself with Elune’s dark side called the Night Warrior. With is power, the kaldorei are able to tip the balance and turn Darkshore into a warfront.

Jaina felt indebted to Baine so she and Shaw inflitrated the Underhold to find and free him, encountering Thrall and Varok in the process. Jaina and Thrall instantly teamed up, the others were more reluctant, but they worked together and freed Baine. Jaina was confronted by a Sunreaver, which seems to have affected her a bit.

After freeing Baine, Jaina begun remembering the past. Thrall felt he made every wrong choice, but Jaina said there was blood on all of their hands. She thinks they can break the cycle.

Sylvanas struck some unknown bargain with Azshara (bargaining with octopus women seems to be her past time) and lured the bulk of the Alliance fleet into a trap. This trap was apparently so devastating to the Alliance that is pretty much tipped the war back into Sylvanas’ favour, so they clearly lost a lot there.

Having lost so much in Naz-jatar, Anduin gambles on supporting Saurfang’s rebellion to stop Sylvanas before more losses can be dealt. Jaina supports this, but Anduin noted Tyrande hasn’t responded to his messages ever since she left for Darkshore weeks ago. It’d be faster to tell you who does side with Sylvanas in the Horde revolt than who doesn’t, but basically only Nathanos, Gallywix and Geya’rah are with her in Orgrimmar during this rebellion. All other Horde characters relevant to this expansion seem to have sided with Saurfang.

The Alliance and Horde march on Orgrimmar, but Saurfang feels that instead of a siege, only one death was required. he challenges Sylvanas and uses her break buttons to make her snap and reveal she doesn’t care about the Horde. She kills Saurfang and flees. It’s somewhat implied Anduin knew this could’ve happened when he released Saurfang. Jaina, Lor’themar and Thalyssra speculate on what magic Sylvanas had, noting they could not sense it at all and they’ve never seen it before.

The Alliance leaves Orgrimmar without ever laying siege to it. It’s implied the war is over. Jaina has once more become cautiously optismitic about the Horde, so she’s come full circle since Cata. Many opinions are heard, nameless Forsaken are upset Sylvanas abandoned them, nameless night elves are hoping to hunt Sylvanas down, all times to be had.

Not much negioations can happen while N’zoth hangs over them, so that’s their current target. Anduin and Jaina seems to believe peace is possible with the Horde, that the sacrifice of Saurfang is a new beginning for them. Greymane and Shaw aren’t as optimistic. Tyrande’s word not heard yet.

That’s about all I can think of that’s super relevant. There’s little stories here and there that add to the over all story as well. Tyrande and the Darkshore story isn’t done yet, so it remains to be seen how that concludes.
