They want you to experience NEW content. But I think it would be fair that if you leveled with their NEW content, your alts should be offered a Chromie time option.
Once Chromie time “turns off” (admittedly I don’t know when it turns off or how) then you’ll be treated as a high level character killing low level mobs, which if you just want the story none of that matters - you can still do the quests and all of that, but if you want to run a dungeon you might need to run to the physical portal to the dungeon
I hate to be the one to break this to you, but the whole thing with Chromie time was invented so you could experience an entire expansion in your leveling experience, because you outlevel zones too quick to get the immersion. You’d essentially need to level seven to eight alts to even come close to experiencing what most players that played most of WOW.
A couple things I noticed with Chromie time at level 59 (I too have an alt locked at that level).
I’ve run dungeons back to back, obtaining some of the very best items from the vanilla/cataclysm era. Makes for trivial encounters with most mobs both in open world content as well as dungeons. Feels really good to have the best gear but mobs are still your same level.
Quests grant avg. 50 gold. There are approximately 34,000 quests in world of warcraft total. Of those, 4000 either don’t yield gold or are only available via the opposite faction, etc. That leaves close to 30k quest. Multiply 50 gold by 30k = 1.5mil gold
Unfortunately to complete all 30k quests even if you completed 40 quests per day would still take 750 days…
It’s definitely been an interesting experience level locking a Havoc/Vengeance DH at level 59! And a little too fun
You can stay in Chromie time when you hit 60, but you can’t switch expansions after hitting 60. Also, at higher levels you will have access to fewer dungeons within any expansion. I presume that is intended to “encourage” you do buy DF and play that. You can party with a lower level and have them queue you to have access to more dungeons.
I started playing an Orc to try to hit 40 to get the other allied races.
I thought about this and I’m going to retract what I said. I think I’m better off at 59 and I’ll just switch expansions when I need to. That way if I have a dungeon quest along the way, I can knock it out eventually.
I leveled a Priest to 47 where I would have most of my spells, flying, etc then went to the NPC to turn off my XP gains so I could keep going in Chromie time.
Because they need a large number of players to play current content to boost their participation metrics. What individual players may want or feel they need is not a design consideration.
It seems there is a populous that indeed wants to turn in the direction you’re waving off.
Reading about Chrome Time, it seems it’s evolved overtime.
Maybe not now but in due time they may just remove the experience gains at a certain level so you do your level in the current content… but that’s wishful thinking.
I noticed there’s a Classic and Wotlk. I’m sure that didn’t happen overnight.
Changes have been made by designers in response to complaints. That’s nothing like evolution. In fact, other complaints have been ignored, while some changes are inexplicable.
I’m not sure what you are specifically asking for.
And there was a TBC, which was very popular. But for some reason it was removed.
