Chromie, Time-travel, and Leveling in 9.0

The Chromie leveling concept. Will that allow us to play Eastern Kingdoms and Kalimdor as it was pre-Cata once Shadowlands comes out?

that would be nice

I can’t see how since the revamp also brought flying and upped all the graphics of the old world.

Probably not, but I wish that were an option. I really wouldn’t be bothered if I never saw cata revamp EK and Kalimdor ever again.

Umm go play Classic?

That would be awesome if we could.

I like the old world better.

I don’t think so. It’s not something they mentioned so I’m guessing Chromie is just there to port you to starting place for each expansion and then you just go through it as it is today. But it would be a nice to have the option to do a pre-Cata version and if you want Cata version choose to level thru Cataclysm expansion.

This would be ideal. I am no programmer so I don’t know what kind of work it would be.

Why do people post things like this? I didn’t demand it, it was a question ffs.

Yeah I’m not sure they could recreate it and having it run at same time as Cata changes but we can dream lol

They could be to separate “instances” so to speak where the old zones don’t have flying and copy paste the art and such from classic. Obviously there’s more work to it than just that but still the fact that they already have things built with classic would make adding them far less work compared to doing it from scratch.

I imagine it being like the draenei and Belf starter zones but on a grander scale. They’d be detached from the current world.

Personally I think it’d be awesome cause the whole reason I’ve been playing classic at all is to experience some of the old quest lore. Would much prefer to do that in retail if I could.

I’m am somewhat doubtful that they’ll add it though, not because of flying or them being incapable, but more because of them having to decide what to do with old versions of dungeons and raids they’ve removed over the years.

I suppose they could just change all entrances so they take us to the current versions of where ever those things lead, and then just remove quests related to ones that have been changed. Personally I’d like to see the original versions added as well but I know a lot of people are protective of their “removed content” exclusive items.

I don’t think it’ll end up being an option but I’m going to hope for it anyways.

As much as I wish it will work this way, it’s highly unlikely. That would entail them doing quite a bit more work than they have to. It’s not as simple as copying it from Classic and pasting it into Retail. If it were, they would have ample incentive to do it and could tout it as a “feature” of Shadowlands.

As “early stages” as Shadowlands seems to be based on how little they actually showed us at Blizzcon, Blizzard probably needs all the time they can get to get Shadowlands release ready. That means something like porting the whole of Classic’s Eastern Kingdoms and Kalimdor content to retail is likely beyond the scope of what “Chromie Time” is intended to do.

It’s far more realistic to expect that the Eastern Kingdoms/Kalimdor 1-60 content that Chromie syncs you for will be the 1-60 post-Cataclysm experience. Expecting anything else is setting yourself up for disappointment in my opinion.

Is it something I’d like to see done? Absolutely! Especially if it means we get old dungeons and raids back! But it’s unlikely to happen in Shadowlands from what I can tell.

With the Chromie leveling concept we could get xpacs in their original launch state theoretically.

Blizz could also have quests kind of lead into patch update/changes to zones as you complete them. Doubt they will do that but it’s a possibility.

So you would start the WotLK xpac at 3.0 and as you complete the quests it would end up being 3.3 by the time you finished. Same for every other xpac.

Maybe even bring back the pre-events and work those in somehow. The possibilities are endless.

I am so excited for this on my alts. I want to get this in wow in 8.3! I think it would be a breath of fresh air for those playing. Especially if you are working on the world quest achieves.

:eyes:

I hadn’t even thought of that. That would be damn fine of them if they did that.

I could even forgive the squish.

The pre-cataclysm Eastern Kingdoms and Kalimdor zones do not exist in the game anymore. They’ll probably say to play these zone that you should go play Classic.

They said the ‘world as it was’. We shall have to wait and see what that means.

I think the way its going to work is. if you chose to lvl 1-50 in old WoW then you will lvl in it pre-cata revamp to the whole map and if you decid to lvl up in cata then you will see the zones revamped as they once were in cata. so to answer it… in shadowlands you will be able to play vanilla zones ( aka original wow as it once was) and if you decided to lvl in the cata xpac then you will see the zones as they stand now.

Y’all are really placing a lot of faith in a feature designed to be a corner cutter for what they consider old and irrelevant content yet understand the players still enjoy. The EK you see today is what you will be leveling in if that’s where you choose to go. Expect anything more than that and you’re just gonna be disappointed later. Have realistic hopes like “maybe they will make classes feel fun to play again” or “maybe they won’t give up on it halfway through like they’ve done at least once and almost twice now”
