Chromie Time - CHALLANGE MODE. Would you use it?

With the devs recently talking about offering increased overworld/levelling difficulty, I was thinking how if they added an option to have slower XP gain in Chromie Time, that it could really revamp the levelling experience for people that enjoy the game for levelling up!

As it stands now, you can pick say, WoD for example, and you would hit 70 before you’ve barley completed the intro and one and half zones… Then you get kicked out of Chromie Time.

If there was a option to select “CHALLANGE MODE” where the content is harder, so you got to use more than 2 abilities, and the journey took longer, would anyone here use that?

At the moment, the only way to not out level old content is to lock XP… but even then you are still pretty OP and almost one shoting everything, just the same as if you were on a max level character.

Thoughts?

What’s the reward?

Can you finish the story before you get gated into current content?

If so, yes.
If not, what’s the reward?

I didn’t consider a reward. I thought it would more appeal to people that just want a longer and more engaging levelling experience.

People that just want to level alts fast wouldn’t use it!

Although I wouldn’t be surprised that Blizzard pushed a mode to live servers with a spelling error, I would probably try it.

An XP slider would be a start, slowing down the leveling speed so that you can at least finish the storylines. Possibly those for multiple expansions if so desired, and without having to hunt down the stealthed NPC who can turn XP gains on and off.

And rather than a harder setting, the baseline difficulty should be raised and be given a more “curated” touch. Someone needs to go in there and actually fix stuff. Also should change some quest flags from level requirements to completing other questlines, stories are far too easy to do out of sequence.

It shouldn’t really be necessary. Fixing leveling for those who want it should be the aim, period.

But no harm in some cosmetic-only rewards.
Everyone likes those.

Eh I’m kind of over my leveling days. I’ll level a few toons as expansions release for a total of 10 levels but at this point there is a 0% chance I will start a new toon.

It’s faster than ever and yet simultaneously more of a waste of your time than ever as well. It’s just a bad experience in every aspect and there is no salvaging it at this stage.

Thank you to those that demanded it be constantly accelerating in speed while cutting back on all substance, wonder, and entertainment. Your service is appreciated, not by me, but by someone just like you I’m sure.

Yeah I thought about a slider.

It would be interesting to have the option to slow XP gains down so you still get the dopamine hit from the DING, but you could level up through two or three expansions, or a whole expansion and all the patches that came with it.

Nope
10chars

Of course 8/10 players just want to smash out the levels to get their 100th alt up to max level, but there is defiantly a player base that mostly play to enjoy levelling a characters up.

I think an option to slow XP gains somehow could offer an alternative to the 1 to 70 in 2 zones format.

Maybe they could introduce a food item that makes you “dumb” so you level up slower?

No thanks, especially if there wasn’t a bribe prize.to do it.

They’re testing this out with Lemix. There will be an option called Shattered Timeline. My hope is that they add it to Chromie Time if it goes over well. :slightly_smiling_face:

This is correct. It doesn’t need a reward. It’s just for people who want a more difficult leveling option. No different than Warmode. It doesn’t give extra rewards. It does have an XP boost attached to it. Could slap that onto Shattered Timelines, too.

Yeah, the difficult leveling option they are testing in Legion Remix.

I would love it if there was a way to also slow XP gains too (other than just locking XP.)

I think the increased difficultly coupled with a slower XP gain option, could make levelling in ChromieTime feel like an old-skool levelling experience.

1 to 70 in a couple of weeks, completing all the zones - rather than 5 hours.

I get that most people just want to level to max ASAP, but it would be nice to have the option to take it slow.

At the moment, the only way to do that is to return to the city and lock XP at arbitrary moments - which is not very intuitive.

I’d do it.

Only once in a blue moon will I level a character outside of dungeon spam. But every time I do, it is frustrating to level out of the zones so quickly.

I recently leveled a void elf rogue in the BFA zones. I never played Alliance in BFA, and all of that was completely new to me. Too bad I only got through 2 zones before I got booted, lol.

I’d rarely interact with this feature, but I’d be glad it’s there for when I felt like it. I know there is a niche of players who enjoy questing and leveling as their main activity.

I’d do it once for the novelty at least.

Meh, i would rather just be able to do normal Chromie Time all the way to max level. and you could unlock this ability after getting one character to the max level through the current content.

Absolutely. It would have to be an option.

Defiantly not suggesting that new players on a new account are forced to go slow.

There would be a dialogue box that pops up like Threads of Fate used to have, so you have to confirm that you know you are selecting slow XP hard mode.
