Chromie Time and New characters

So last night, like every other player… Made a brand new toon to experience the new starting zone and I wanted to do all the introductory quests to see what blizzard added. So as soon as I got to Stormwind, I did the stable quest, class trainer, etc… but when it came down to it, even though I have multiple level 50 toons. They still pushed me into BFA which I didn’t want to do. I checked the heroes board and was able to choose Legion or WoD but nothing else.

I talked to chromie and all she said was “You got your hands full in Boralus”. Why can’t there be a flag that allows you to choose Chromie time no matter if you did the introductory quests to stormwind/orgrimmar? I see multiple people who were upset they were pushed into BFA. What do you guys think? Am I being over dramatic? Or would you want a different approach to this issue?

TL;DR: If you do the introductory quests to SW/ORG, it pushes you into BFA, Legion or WoD and you’re ineligible to activate chromie time for the leveling experience YOU want.

I went to legion with my lvl 20 something alt today and had to do the starter quest chain to the broken shore and there was no option like before to skip it .

Kinda lame

This isn’t entirely true. If you complete the introductory BfA quests then Chromie should become available to you.

Alternately, as soon as you land in SW/Org from Exile’s Reach, the NPC that you turn your quest in to has a dialogue option to leave the Tutorial. Do that, head to the Hero’s Board, and there will be a quest to go talk to Chromie.

Aye, but what I’m referring to is if you do the quest chain in sw/org. It forces you into BFA, Legion or WoD. So, getting your mount, talking to your class trainer and such.

The whole world scales with you right? Or did Blizzard remove world-scaling?

And as for Chromie time, if the world scales with you, why do you need Chromie time?

This is exactly how I did it.

You need Chromie Time for the world to scale and even with that, it’s not even scaling. It’s choosing which expansion will be scalable with you.

I mean, when I logged on my 63 warlock was now 27 and all the mobs around me were 27 and I was in Northern Strangle Thorne Vale.

Every zone I went into, all the mobs were 26/27. So I guess im confused.

Last night I was leveling with a buddy through Exiles Reach. Both of us have max level characters.

At the end of Exiles Reach, I chose the option “I already know about Orgimmar” (or something like that) instead of accepting the Welcome to Orgrimmar quest.

He did not.

I didn’t get forced into doing the opening quest for Zandalar, but he did.

It’s not obvious that accepting that quest will force you into the tutorial, especially for those who just accept every quest with an exclamation point on autopilot.

We was, however, both able to go to WoD after he did the opening quests in Zandalar.

So, my understanding is it scales how it scaled before. so zones have a level cap but then scale with your level when you’re ready for that zone. So for instance, Northrend was 60-80, so the mobs will scale with you from 60 to 80.

I’m talking about that mini quest line. I skipped it the first time but the second time, I didn’t and was forced into BFA like your friend with exceptions to WoD and Legion.

Right and that is my question… if stuff scales with you now, why do you need chromie time? Cant I just fly my butt to the portal in TBC and start questing?

Oh I get it, chromie time lets me do the whole 10 to 49.99 in whatever zone I want.

Yea I think they need to do a better job at communicating this. I almost accepted the quest instead of skipping just because quests give xp. I didn’t know that doing so would force you into starting BfA.

It only scales to a certain extent. like… Ex: 10-20, 10-30, 20-30, 20-40

To me, the worst thing is when you ding 50, you are yanked out of your questing and forced to go to SL.

If you turn off the XP at lvl 49, you cannot access dungeons or Chromie. Some of the changes this time around are REALLY bad and I anticipate them being “fixed” in a later Patch. I don’t think the Community is going to stand for some of these things.

But then you can manually get back to where you were, right? So you can finish up the quests?

We reported this multiple times throughout Beta, that it feels bad to be shunted into BfA when you are not new, since the Exile’s Reach experience ends (and achievement pops) in Boralus/Zuldazar. If you are not new, they should just end that experience at the Inn, and then pop a breadcrumb about Chromie Time. We tried, honest we did.

Well, yikes. It feels like a pretty bad experience. All they would have to do is give you an option if you’re a returning player. Instead of the “king” wanting to speak with you. It could be “Chromie would like to speak to you, or if you feel more urgent matters are at hand, you can head to stormwind keep” or some crap lol

Yes, you can still fly there on your own, but everything will be back down to level 30ish and you’ll one shot everything.

The idea appears to be that you can pick any expansion regardless of your current level and the world scales to that. So, I picked Legion for my (prepatch) level 23 character and Legion scales to my level 23. Obviously you can’t do that outside Chromie time, you have to level up to be able to access it.

I’m still testing how well that works because of course my level 23 has only a limited set of abilities, I’m not sure how that will work against the mobs in the world, not to mention the dungeons.
