Chromatus?

Not sure if this has been brought up or not, but are there any hints we’ll see Chromatus? It’s the perfect expac to bring him in.

Five headed dragon, one head of each aspect, an experiment of Nefarian, and currently he’s only in stasis, not dead or destroyed, in an unknown location. It makes sense and would make an amazing raid boss.

Sure, just as long as they don’t pull any garbage like with Kirygosa.

Sorry, but I think you’re confusing Chromatus with Galakrond unless I’m misinterpreting.

I definitely am! I probably shouldn’t be working and forum-posting at the same time! Thanks for the callout!

My blunder aside, Chromatus could potentially be the target of the Primal Incarnates this whole time. We know his body still exists somewhere, perhaps the Incarnates are trying to seek out the Shadowflame in Abberus as an attempt to re-animate him and not Galakrond like people are speculating? Could be interesting!

Hopefully.

Would be nice to see him in game. But I have a feeling that if Blizzard does bring him in and do not provide an in-game summary of who he is etc, we would get “why was this in a book REEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!” all over again.

Good point. We need something in-game explaining who Chromantus is before we see him up and about.

I am sure you know but the running theory for chromatus is that the ultraxian fight was supposed to be chomatus.

I am not sure if we’ll get that but there does seem to be these open plot threads with the blue dragon flight and iirc the blue dragon flight and kirin tor are somewhat responsible for maintaining his arcane prison.

I think the way that they’re going with it tho is that the final patch will be the infinite dragon flight. I see a lot of youtubers saying it’s gonna be another nzoth patch with old god stuff, but I just don’t think that makes as much sense as the infinite dragon flight which they’ve been building towards and dropped a lot of hints about in Shadowlands, including the hooktail boss which was an infinite dragon.

“Ininfinite dragon flight is old god stuff,” it is which is probably where this is going. The infinite dragon flight is well known for sleuthing around and breaking into places and using guile/wit to accomplish their goal(s.) So maybe we will see chromatus. I think we are maybe more likely to see Galakrond in some form, because of the mentions of him and cinematic about the history of it and stuff but we might also not because the tyr hold story line seem to mostly write him off.

Chromatus might have also been written off entirely by blizzard. The last time they did a multi headed fight that I can remeember was in the throne of thunder cave and they didn’t even animate a body with multiple heads. They just had multiple targets of heaeds that are assumed to be the same creature with no lower body. The reason ultraxian replaced chromatus was because they didn’t/couldn’t animate the fight in a way that looked good iirc. And they might not want to do that either. But we’ve got some amazing raid bosses in recent expansions so maybe? I just don’t think there’s been any hints of it.

You make a good argument. I’ve also heard that Ultraxion in Cata was supposed to be Chromantus originally. But they didn’t use Chromantus because they didn’t have the technology to implement a 5-headed dragon into the game.

I think they could if they put the effort in. We have had 3-headed hydras in the game for years, they got an upgrade in Legion plus there has been over 10 years of technological and special effects advancements since Cata. And we’ve seen a similar monster done in movies, such as one I often compare Chromantus to - Ghidorah. There have been excellent-looking portrayals of Ghidorah in recent movies, like “Godzilla: King of Monsters”.

So in light of that, there is the potential to bring Chromantus to life in WoW and make him awesome. And this expansion would be a great fit for him imo. Otherwise, I hope he crops up in an expac based around Azshara; she’d be the ideal character to wake him up and use him in her plans.

Idk who this is it like the black wing lair boss

Ultraxion was a raid boss from Cata. Chromantus is a dragon villain from WoW books.

they didn’t have the technology

I think it was either that or they didn’t have the time to do it and it look good. They still didn’t have the tech or time by the time of Throne of Thunder because “Magathhara” or whatever the hydra thing is, is very lazily just single snake bodies sticking up out of water and we’re just supposed to believe they’re all connected to the same creature conjoined under water. Which was so lazy and dumb imo.

3 Headed hydras basically never change though. They’ve almost all been the same base model with the same animations. And a huge raid boss would be harder to do. Maybe even harder today because of the rapid increase of polygons over the years.

Bring chromatus to life

I don’t think it will happen. Honestly I see galakrond getting softly teased better than chromatus. But also the theory for why we went to the Eye for the focusing iris was where we would have fought chromatus, because in the book chromatus is imprisoned in an arcane prison, I think maintained by the blue flight.

It is probably almost safe enough to assume that if we don’t see chromatus or any reference to him by the end of dragon flight that he has been softly retconned. Not unlike Me’Dan or whoever the guardian goober goblin jesus dude from the comics was.

I am a lore nerd and think a lot of youtubers are wrong. They keep predicting old gods stuff again with all the neltharian and shadowflame and all that. But It makes much more logical sense that the final patch or next expansion will be heavily involved with the infinite dragon flight. You can argue that the infinite dragon flight is old god stuff but I’m not so sure and also there is a lot in common with the void and infinite dragon flight, besides their collective desire to destroy azeroth. For one, they both see infinitely many possibilities where as the gold dragons see one primary path of time to be true and the titans and light prefer order and yadda yadda.

They have also foreshadowed Norzadormu’s death again and hinted that chromie would replace him as the aspect of their flight in the event of his death. Since DF is essentially the sequal or continuation of the plotlines in Cataclysm I think that we are going to see the long awaited, well baited, and informed resolution of the infinite dragon flight and norzdormu. And then I think infinite dragon flight will be the starting point for a void expansion.

So I don’t think we are going to see chromatus at all but if we do that would be cool. I think we are going to deal with the infinite dragon flight either in .2 or .2.5
