Given the strong possibility of a Dragon Isles expansion after this one, I’m reminded of two powerful dragon characters in the lore.
In light of that, how it took the aspects working together to beat them and given their powers, if Galakrond at his peak fought Chromantus at his peak, who would win and why?

Chromatus was a mere experiment of Nefarian. Galakrond was larger than all five aspects combined. He would certainly win, for that reason alone.
While you are right about Galakrond’s size and Chromantus’ origins, Galakrond was killed by the Aspects before the Titans empowered them. The Aspects (with Thrall filling in for Neltharion/Deathwing) were unable to kill Chromantus - only incapacitate him - after the Titans empowered them. Because of that, I think Galakrond could win, but don’t think the answer is clear cut.

Pft. Deathwing was bigger than Thrall and the 10-25 heroes who took him down. It’s not the size of the dragon, it’s about the power they hold.
That said. The winner?
20 mythic heroes, plus the major lore NPC(s) assisting them!
We’re unstoppable.

If Chromatus can survive being swallowed and be able to kill from inside he’d win. Otherwise Galakrond would win.
Why would Galakrond, the largest dragon, not simply eat Chromantus?

Maybe Chromatus tastes horrible.
Plus, he’s apparently unbreakable or something. He’d just sit in Galakrond’s gut for years. Then imagine trying to pass a Chromatus!!
Just super uncomfortable.

Perhaps they are saving that for sweeps (props if you get the reference).

At his prime, Chromatus was technically unkillable because he wasn’t entirely dead or alive, and his body was basically indestructible. It took the combined magical energies of all five Aspects just to sort of “switch off” that empowerment because even together, their energies couldn’t cause permanent damage to him, and their efforts to destroy the lifeless body afterward even proved fruitless. Hence why he was sealed away; it was indicated that if anything ever managed to animate him again, there might not be anything that could stop him (especially now, with the Aspect powers gone, as they were uniquely suited to neutralizing his dragonflight energies while removing the spark of life that animated him.)
Conversely, even as large and strong and resilient as Galakrond became when fully mutated and deformed during his final confrontation with the proto-Aspects, he still proved killable by mundane means, namely by chucking a huge boulder down his windpipe and choking him to death. And his “powers” basically amounted to being able to eat other protodragons and puke them up as undead minions; a somewhat useless power in a world that’s no longer host to vast flights of protodragons. Plus even they could only really seem to cause physical harm once reanimated; their bites could spread their undead condition, but as a creature already neither properly alive nor dead, that doesn’t seem likely to affect something like Chromatus, whose indestructible body would probably just be impervious to their claws and teeth anyway.
So with his inability to be killed or physically destroyed by likely anything short of the Dragon Soul and with the powers inherent to all five dragonflights at his disposal, Chromatus at his strongest would probably easily kill Galakrond at his.

If anything animated Chromantus’ body… good thing there’s no one around who’s served the Old Gods, is literally stuffed to the gills with arcane magic AND has a grudge against the world like Queen Azshara, right

To be fair, an undead Galakrond and protodragons spreading a zombie virus would also be a huge threat… at least we haven’t gotten on the bad side of a bald, god-like being who specializes in undeath and soul manipulation, eh? eh?
Having Chromantus or Galakrond - or BOTH - would be a huge game-changer for a Dragon Isles expansion, and I really hope Blizzard does this. If they’re both there and clash, whoever wins, I would love to see that fight.
Something else to remember is that Galakrond was a protodragon, and while by no means stupid, protodragons were rather intellectually primal and simple compared to modern dragons. Hence the Aspects’ tactic of choking him to death and alternately attacking to keep him off-balance was something of a brilliant revelation for them when previously the rest of their kind hadn’t really been capable of much more than “we’ll all get together and mob Galakrond.” Protodragons were pretty intelligent, but in a lot of ways they were still just intelligent beasts. Galakrond himself never came across as actually understanding what was happening to him or even wondering about it (in fairness to this day there’s never been a definitive explanation); rather, he acted largely like a sick and wounded animal reacting to the symptoms of his affliction while desperately looking for more and more to eat.
Conversely like most fully grown modern dragons, Chromatus was worldly and “savvy,” aware of his nature and able to understand his place in Deathwing’s and the Twilight Father’s plans for Azeroth (perhaps even more than that; there were some subtle implications that had he lasted, Chromatus and his hypothetical offspring might have ended up the Old Gods’ real agents on a post-Hour of Twilight Azeroth once they had no further use for Deathwing), such as the plan for him to father a true Chromatic dragonflight with Kirygosa. So if it came to one or the other posing a greater threat, as big a disaster as Galakrond could cause if brought back and set loose, Chromatus would probably be better able to actually plot and coordinate with whatever villainous agency facilitated his revival.

I don’t know if it would. We haven’t seen this zombie virus being used on non-dragons, and given the very… Unusual means it has to originate (Galakrond’s colon for the Pateint Zeroes), it probably wouldn’t transfer to non-dragons. Given the very limited number of dragons flying around (allegedly), that’s only a small number of potential zombie-dragons.
I’d be more worried about the damage he can inflict on settlements based on size alone. Deathwing did a whole big amount on just a flyby of places. An even bigger Grandpappy proto-drake? I imagine Ogrimmar and Stormwind would have a Very Bad Day if he came by.
Chromatus is more concerning though, for a different reason. Fully empowered, it took three dragon aspects and a stand-in to knock him out. One of those aspects is gone now, and we don’t know if the Greens have found a replacement. He might not be capable of as much settlement damage in as short a time, but you instead have an indestructible tank walking around, doing whatever it wants and the only way to stop it may no longer be a possibility.
If those boys teamed up, we might not even be able to stop them with the otherwise unstoppable 20 heroes and a lore-friend.
We might need an even greater weapon…
40 heroes and TWO lore-friends!!!

That defiantly sounds like the sort of thing I’d like to see in-game!
…so, we should be expecting to get more cutscenes with Anduin and Sylvanas instead then, right?

Aka Thadeus watched one Bellular speculation video about Dragon Isles and will now accept this speculation as fact of the next expansion.
People have been saying “Dragon Isles is the next expansion” since MoP. It’s kind of a running joke at this point.
I call cap until it actually happens.

There’s been some hints to the Dragon Isles recently. It was alluded to in Exploring Kalimdor, there’s a dragon themed sale currently on the Blizzard store, and a cutscene in 9.2 has a Draconic phrase mentioned amongst other important languages. Danuser said that we won’t be spending all the time of future expansions in cosmic realms and the Dragon Isles is one of the only places left to go to on Azeroth. So speculating about the Dragon Isles being next is fair.

I’ve been keen on a Dragon Isles expansion for some time, and I think it’s even more likely given that Shadowlands has put several fans off more “cosmic wars” stuff for awhile. I personally hope to see something like Azshara bringing back Chromantus, and during one of those musings Galakrond came to mind.
I don’t watch many WoW speculation videos anymore, and when I did I barely watched Bellular (now I don’t watch him at all; I prefer Doronsmovies, Nobbel and even Accolon to name a few).
Also, given everything that’s happened at Blizzard in real-life, I think the devs will be more receptive to the community’s desires.

Well, I’m wrong all the time, and it turns out Galakrond died easily lol.
On that note, Galakrond would be harder to kill - not than Chromantus, but than he was in life - as an undead skeleton dragon; no choking him with a boulder down the throat this time.

What do you mean? Tyrande tried choking Sylvanas!

Doness brings up a very valid point. Sylvia v Tyrande has given us evidence that despite all logic, undead can be choked.
I know, I know, it makes no sense because undead do not breathe. And yet, Sylvania was clearly having some issue there. Her voice was strained.
Choking an animated corpse is now a perfectly viable strategy.
