@Chris Metzen, retcon Shadowlands

And this is why I call you the stuff you post “stupidity”. Which btw, is not ad hominem. Neither is accusing you of being too biased and unobjective to be worth arguing with, although that is closer to ad hominem.

You’ll come up with the dumbest, disingenuous ideas you can to try and support your position, and when those ideas get shot down you just come up with more nonsense. You are not worth the time.

Yes, this would be the best ending to shadowlands

It most certainly is ad hominem. Not only that it is completely ad hominem. You can’t come up with a single word to challenge what I said.

Again, rectangles turn into continents, another continent appears never mentioned before, islands appear where ships have sailed in previous expansions and that not a retcon.

But having established that the dreadlords came from the Twisting Nether to get to Nathreza, not one word on how they got to the Twisting Nether and just adding that Sire Denathrius sent them suddenly that’s a retcon?

Stick to your personal insults it’s all you’ve got. The fallacy of ad hominem, when you can’t attack the message, which you are too embarrassed to even attempt, attack the messenger.

This reminds me of what Ion said a while back in regards to TWW.

“If nothing changes, then nothing changes.”

I get that people on the forums like to meme about the guy, but there is something both brutally honest and profound about that quote that I just admire.

That’s exactly right which is why there is no problem with continents and islands appearing. Take the Hobbit, Lord of the Rings and The Silmarillion for example. The Hobbit starts out as a little story “There and back again” then expands into the Lord of the Rings then expands into the Silmarillion completely with pagan style gods just like Shadowlands.

All sorts of explanations about where wizards and others came from but no one calls that a retcon

No. Ad hominem is attacking the opponent with an irrelevant personal attack. What I attack about you is very relevant to the argument. You’re intellectually dishonest, disingenuous, and your arguments are idiotic.

The arguments you make are so ridiculous as to be too tiresome to even justify with the effort to invalidate them. And invalidate them I could. Easily. But you’d just follow up with another invalid argument. And another, and yet another ad nauseum. The only thing I’m embarassed about is having bothered with you to begin with, you elf shaped troll.

You were asked which lore fans genuinely like SL, and cited yourself which was clearly dishonest as you are clearly ignorant of the lore.

You do not need to destroy continuity to introduce a change. That quote was completely ignorant and foolish.

Sure, sounds fair.

Oh… That’s unfortunate. I wasn’t responding to you though.

Nor did you need to be for me to reply.

I was speaking in general terms about how stories and lore changes over time with context. not trying to start an argument but it kinda took me by surprise.

Bit hard to do that when every core piece of lore is related back to the Jailor’s oh so great “Master Plan” — or some titans rip-off via “The First Ones” …

It’s why most were preaching and begging for Shadowlands to be revealed as just a “N’Zoth nightmare vision” but pull the void-line: “… with hints of truth” — so particular aspects could be canon but make much of the game a mystery.

  • Having everything in an Afterlife expansion be written as entropic, worthlessly meaningless, robotic or 3D printed in its creation — Especially for aspects that should had been eternal, spiritual, mystical and endless? … That’s lame & dumb as.

So yeah no, I completely disagree — They could flip the finger to Shadowlands for all I care, because I think it’ll HELP us have a solid philosophy going forward. Foundations are important, if you butcher them for some BS idea that flops, then the world-building becomes sloppy …

Nothing but insult. Why? It’s all you’ve got. You couldn’t respond to this perfectly valid rational argument if you had to in order to survive. But I’m going to give you another chance.

Warning, this is a rational argument you can’t win, better take my advice again as you did last time and stick to insults. It’s all you’ve got. So …

Rectangles turn into continents, another continent appears never mentioned before, islands appear where ships have sailed in previous expansions and that not a retcon.

But having established that the dreadlords came from the Twisting Nether to get to Nathreza, not one word on how they got to the Twisting Nether and just adding that Sire Denathrius sent them suddenly that’s a retcon?

Nowhere did they say that they got to the Twisting Nether any other way.
Nowhere did they say that Sire Denathrius did NOT send them there.

Like I said, don’t even try to debate that. Just follow my advice and stick to slinging mud.
It’s actually getting kind of silly.

Indoctrination theory is literally the worst thing you can do. Everything will be called into question forever, no level of continuity matters if anything can be overwritten at any time on a whim. You sell your soul to get out a bind.

TBH not really sure why that guy is getting so emotional. It’s kind of cringe.

The Dreadlord reveal and the Eye of the Jailer being the Eye of Odyn were both cool lore features. Hate Danuser for his cringe self-insertion and the way he handled Sylvanas etc but getting wound up about actual cool lore stuff just makes the community look like perpetual whiners.

I can win that argument. I don’t want to bother humoring a troll’s argument.

The fact you embrace retcons is beyond cringe. Unbearably so.

I don’t like ignorant, intellectually dishonest people who make garbage arguments.

I agree the N’Zoth nightmare thing was a bad idea, personally I wasn’t a fan of it — However I wouldn’t mind if they soft-retconned various elements of Shadowlands overtime, like what was posed as ‘truth’ was in fact a falsified conspiracy.

  • Given the ordeals of the Nathrezim, it wouldn’t be too far fetched for them to have woven lies in their texts to dissuade & misdirect their readers — Same with immense beings like ‘The First Ones’ whom could have crafted conspiracies & lies in all manner of places to conceal the truth (eg. Crafting the Shadowlands as a barrier to protect the ‘true’ afterlives from the mortal plane, and the mortal plane from them).

In terms of retcons, honestly I find there’s a right way to do them – and a wrong way to do them … Shadowlands obviously did it the wrong way :joy: … However with the correct writing & storytelling (asking for a lot from Blizz there, I know), the lore can be still be salvaged.

Shadowlands story felt like the writers attempted to butcher from other great stories merely to elevate their own. :person_facepalming:

  • Those “rampant retcons” in Shadowlands were ridiculous & just left a sour taste in many peoples mouths for their favourite stories that were now ruined …

I remember on the forums during SL there were conspiracy theories that the current writers at the time were intentionally ruining the old stories on purpose as some kind of “Your time is over, now it’s OUR time!” ordeal. :joy:

Honestly the way Blizzard dealt with N’Zoth just felt super lazy & disrespectful.

As it stands — N’Zoth did more damage & had more successes when in prison, than when he was free …

The way we concluded N’Zoth just felt super cheap & lazy.

Especially the regard of how we used various titan-facilities around Azeroth – They had so much more potential than to just be some bandaid to the Heart of Azeroth & an infinity stone to a kamehameha beam. :joy: :sob:
